There are two confirmed quartzes as of Too Far (no, I'm not counting Rose) and both have very similar wild white hair.

Soldier- She is quite obviously triggered by weapons, and I'm not using tumblr's interpretation of the word. I'm referring to actual PTSD, which is usually caused by traumatic experiences in the war.

She also has the ability to summon minions, which only makes sense for a gem designed to fight (and an evil scientist protagonist of a good but overrated animated movie)

Now that we can reasonably conclude that the Centipeetle Mother is a quartz, we have to figure out what type of quartz she is. There are three types of green quartz:

1. Aventurine- the gem of prosperity and luck. Calmness and relief from stress/anxiety are mentioned in a few sources. This stone seems to be the exact opposite of Centipeetle's fate and personality. The poor girl was beaten up for little to no reason and dehumanized (degemized?) by the Crystal Gems several times. As mentioned before, she had a REALLY bad anxiety attack upon seeing Garnet's gauntlets despite having been calm the whole rest of the mission.

However, it isn't unusual for Steven Universe characters to have gems that represent the exact opposite of who they are in the story.

Peridot, who has been established as having a lack of empathy (crushing the tiny robot that had been compared to a baby immediately before, seeing nothing wrong with the forced fusions that made the calm and collected Garnet break down, kidnapping Steven, "Who cares about how SHE feels? Who cares about any of you? You're all just rocks! Ruddy, muddy, clumps beneath my gravity connecters!") is the gem of compassion. Similarly, malachite is the gem of healthy relationships.

Aventurine's dissimilarity to Centipeetle could be a deliberate example of irony. It could even foreshadow future character growth, since Peridot is slowly becoming more compassionate and Garnet's "love takes work" philosophy means that Jaspis could actually become a good ship one day. I would probably cry if SU had an episode about overcoming anxiety ?

2. Chrysoprase- the gem of love, happiness, and understanding.

Love: In the above gif, you can see that Centipeetle has diamonds in her eyes. Other characters who do this are Connie, Greg, and Pearl, who all love Steven. I think that the recurring symbol is meant to symbolize this. Also, she sacrificed herself for Steven. You can't get much more loving than that.

Happiness: She's just so cheerful and playful around Steven. She's like an adorable little puppy.

Understanding: At first, she started to reform into her giant, monstrous form from Gem Glow. Then she saw how frightened Steven was of her. It probably reminded her of how she feels about the other Crystal Gems. She understood his feelings, and took a smaller, cuter form in response.

It's also said to heal anxiety and depression, which I elaborated on earlier.

The IRL gem chrysoprase resembles Centipeetle's gem much more than the other two. Not only is the color more similar, but it can also have black inclusions similar to the lines in Cen's gem.

Chrysoprase is also a very likely candidate, perhaps more likely than aventurine.

3. Prasiolite, AKA Green Amethyst- the gem of nature and spirituality. Doesn't seem to have any obvious connections to Centipeetle. Looks nothing like Centipeetle or her gem. Probably the least likely.

If you've survived this giant wall, congratulations! Let me know what you think about my theory. Is Centipeetle a quartz? Is she an aventurine? Is she a chrysoprase? Is she something else entirely? Have any evidence to add to/debunk my theory? Am I thinking way too deeply about a children's cartoon? Find out next time on Theorizing With CC!
