As Mediawatcher says it's not a gem but I don't pearls are technically gems either.

While that's true, bismuth technically being a metal, bismuth is also considered a gemstone in pagan culture. From what I can gather, nearly every gem, even Peridot, as some links to some form of pagan spirituality. For example, Garnet's considered a gemstone of protection, which personifies pretty well in her character. </p>

<p>One thing that I don't think anyone has remarked on is that this seems to be the first time Steven has used Rose's sword by himself. </p><p>He used it twice before with Connie: Lion 2: The Movie, and Crack The Whip. </p><p>Have I forgotten some other time when Steven used the Sword? </p><p>I think it is also the first time he has poofed a gem, though I am not as certain of that. Can anyone think of another instance where he poofed someone, even a Gem Mutant? </p>

<p>I think you're right with the poofing. He's bubbled Gems and Gem shards before but I don't think he was ever the one to poof them. </p>

The answer is no, because Frybo didn't have a body to poof. Steven just pulled the shard out of the costume, so it could not control the costume anymore. </p>

<p>Well gems are, well, gems, and clearly that refers to the rocks. So I thought all gems were actual gemstones. And unlike bismuth, which is not only a metal, but a metal element (not an alloy, which is a combination of metals), pearls are actually made up of a variety of materials, and have gem-like properties. It atleast makes sense to classify pearls as gems, especially when you consider the fact that their considered objects as opposed to people by gems like peridot (or atleast, she used to). But bismuth is just, well, kind of random. Iron is a metal element too, and so is gold, silver, and a whole lot of other metals. Are they considered gems in this world too? I hope not. That's stretching the term "gem" far past what it should refer to. </p>

Frybo was just possesed by gem shards, he was already poofed </p>

<p>Than again, gems like Jasper, other Quartz soldiers, rubies, sapphires, nephrites (bismuth mentioned one that piloted a dropship when talking about events from the war), and other gems in the show seem to be shown more status, respect, and individuality by homeworld then less gem-like things like pearls and bismuths. Maybe there's actually a hiarchy in that regard. </p>
