All the Gems keep saying their bodies are made of light, but they are solid if anything they could be plasma (the 4th state of matter) with somehow their bodies being shaped by magnets giving them some "solidness". <p>If true, the magnetism would indeed mess with the ultrasound wand, but Connie's mom seems to have been able to do a simple vitals check on two separate Gem mutants and her stethoscope didn't cling to the mutant's body seeing as said stethoscope has some metal on it that could be stainless steel, but that didn't happen. Also the Crystal Gems aren't constantly fighting iron- or steel-made items away from their bodies, so there's also that. </p><p>So I could extrapolate with that evidence that maybe if Rose went for an ultrasound, it wouldn't fail given the fact that the ultrasound wand is basically a very sensitive microphone meant for very localized sonar and magnets could cause some interferance with any microphone. </p><p>As for money, I feel that from the car wash Greg could've saved enough to make sure his future child would be okay, specially given the fact that he's literally one of a kind! I'm not a father, but I would make sure my child is born without any complications if possible. Steven's whole journey since being conceived is so unique that I'm sure Rose and Greg made sure he would have been born using human medical knowledge and whatever Gem tech they could've used including Garnet's future vision and Rose's healing abilities. </p> </div> <p>Yep, my bad, Rose going for an ultrasound is the easy answer to Lion putting a tape on its mane, i hope it isn't, and i insist, Greg's comment implies that he only know Steven was a boy when he was born, idk </p>

<p>I have this theory that Rose never really knew what gender her baby was gonna be. Notice how the clips are nearly identical (meaning it was scripted???) and we never get to see how far along in the pregnacy was due thanks to the constant rewinding. My best guess is that Rose entrusted Greg with the key way back when they first met. Greg pitches the tape in the landfill after discovering that he had a son. He dumps the key near the door. Lion mistakes it for a lollipop and eats it right before he meets Steven. After this lollipop turns out to be inedible, Lion makes a heartfelt race towards where he found it knowing it'd lead to something important. </p>

<p>I like it, except for the fact that Lion is not PD in this theory okno XDDD, but, Greg going to the landfill, How? </p>

I immediatly saw the same plothole, if two versions of the tape are made it indicates Rose dose not know the babies gender, and remember she is VERY pregnant at the time the tapes are made, delivery is likely iminent here so Rose has not able or interested in determining gender before birth.  Greg is aware of both tapes existing but dose not seem aware of what became of them they were made, he clearly did not put the Steven tape in Lion nor the Nora tape in the desert.  Rose doing both of thouse things makes sense except for the fact she shouldnt exist anymore at the time when the correct tape would be knowable. </p><p>I would love to have a theory to explain this all but I'm afraid an oversight on the part of the writers is really the most likely explination here because the story just can't be told without this plothole and the central message of magical destiny vs just a child is really the whole point and nicely done. </p>

<p>Greg would have said something like "Even Garnet couldn't, then we go for an ultrasound and yeah c:", i don't know, an ultrasound is the easiest solution for this, literally, and also, it was never mentioned (what if ultrasound doesn't exist in SU's alternate universe? D:) </p>

<p>All evidence is pointing away from untrasounds or any pre-birth identification of the babies gender. </p><p>That lion himself might have placed both tapes in their location dose not make much sense too me, that hill in the pocket dimension needs to be walked up to get to where the tape was, lion should not be able to climb inside himself, you have to presume that lion is MORE then what he is now for this theory to work, and I don't subscribe to any of thouse theories. </p><p>
</p><p>I can accept lion as we know him now being the one who brought the Nora tape to the desert junk pile but that's not the hard one to explain, heck one of the other crystal gems could have done that on rose's request. </p><p>Also I should point out that the whole notion of two tapes is a bit silly, Rose should just make either 1 tape in which she says 'if your a boy your named Steven, if your a girl your named Nora" and then proceed with all the message, or make 2 tapes and leave both in lion along with all the other momentos of her's that she clearly placed their. </p>

<p>She made two tapes and one was put in that shrine within Lion's dimensional pocket, she clearly wanted her offspring to feel special because she took the time to make one for each of the names that both Rose and Greg decided upon depending on the sex of their child. Rose had to have made the effort of finding out before she was due so that whenever Lion was found by her offspring, he or she would've found the shrine and thus gotten some knowledge of who Rose was outside of Greg's and the Crystal Gem's opinions about her. She meticulously curated that shrine for her offspring's sake, in a way is autobiographical. </p><p>It actually does bring up more questions than it answers, because that means Rose may have wanted her child to know about Bismith and thus solve the conflict? Oh, boy this is bigger than I thought! I mean Lion was unknown to the Crystal Gems and Greg and yet although Lion has the shrine in the pocket dimension there wasn't a guaranteed that Rose's child would ever find Lion, but then again the other tape was also in a similar location as Lion, but supposedly that was no longer needed given the fact that Steven found the tape meant for "Steven" 1st! See! More questions!!! </p>
