ALL POSTSWhy do so many people dislike the first season of Steven Universe?
<p>Something has always bothered me about some people in this fandom. I'm fine with shipping. I'm fine with having certain opinions about some characters. I'm more than fine with all the theories. But the one thing that I've never understood and am actually kind of offended by is how a lot of people keep saying they skipped and/or disliked the first season. But the first season started everything. Of course the show gets better as it goes on, but so does any show with continuity. But that doesn't make the first season bad. So why do people not like it? I've been watching this show since episode 18 was the latest episode, so if anyone's a true fan of this show, it's me. I was here before Jailbreak. I liked this show before it was cool. So why all the hate for the first season? One youtuber even said he hated the first couple dozen episodes. His reasons sounded like the most minor and insignificant of "issues" blown so far out of proportion, it was beyond my comprehension of how he even lives in the same reality I do.
</p><p>I really don't get any of this hate or criticism. The first season was great. It's not like the first seasons of most other cartoons have been any better. And how can you even call yourself a fan of this show if you skipped and/or disliked the entire first season of it all? How could you even become a fan at that rate? I really just don't get any of this, and I'd really like to hear some opinions from other fans of the show to get a better picture of the overall outlook. So please, share your opinions down below, and please for the love of Rebecca, don't start arguing. I'm very open minded, and I will try my best to reach an understanding with anyone, even if I don't agree with them. So please, be nice, and let's all have a peaceful discussion about what we all think of the first season and why. Thank you. :)

Yeah, sorry about that from earlier. I had recently just watched a YouTube video that made me question the quality of the show (that's what started this, actually), and I was trying to reassure myself of the quality of the first season in the days that followed. I figured the fandom might give me a better understanding of the overall consensus, but because the topic was so subjective and opinionated, I thought that first stating my longer history and experience with the show would make my insight into the progression of the show and the fandom more valid, but it would seem it had the opposite effect and made others feel as though they were somehow less relevant as fans. I completely understand how you could get that vibe, especially looking back at the way I worded it, but believe me when I say that's not what I wanted anyone to interpret at all. I really do feel bad if I put you down in any way, and I am sorry. Just know that I think anyone who truly likes the show is just as valid of a fan as anyone else, and I'm sorry that I made it seem like I thought otherwise.

Thier brains haven't developed enough yet to appreciate why it's good. Give it ten or so years.

<p>I've been into this show since s1 ep. 02, and I agree totally. I stayed watching the show because I knew that the gems weren't all they seemed. I knew that something big and bad was going to happen halfway or at the end of s1.
</p><p>s1 was likely a facade for us and something to keep us away from the secrets, like how the gems kept their secrets away from Steven. s2 hit us like a freight train, because like in the story, that facade was broken, and the secrets were out. The beginning of s3 was rough, and Steven had a rough time with the gems. And it got even rougher at the end of s3. s4 was just a full blown break until, like the end of s3, it got real. s5 will be a stress inducing season. Or I'm just overanalysing it, lol.
</p><p>s1 was the thing leading up to this point. Saying that you hate the first season is like saying you hate your<i><span style="font-weight:normal;"> </span></i><span style="font-weight:normal;">ignorance- I mean</span> childhood.
