ALL POSTSWhy do so many people dislike the first season of Steven Universe?
<p>Something has always bothered me about some people in this fandom. I'm fine with shipping. I'm fine with having certain opinions about some characters. I'm more than fine with all the theories. But the one thing that I've never understood and am actually kind of offended by is how a lot of people keep saying they skipped and/or disliked the first season. But the first season started everything. Of course the show gets better as it goes on, but so does any show with continuity. But that doesn't make the first season bad. So why do people not like it? I've been watching this show since episode 18 was the latest episode, so if anyone's a true fan of this show, it's me. I was here before Jailbreak. I liked this show before it was cool. So why all the hate for the first season? One youtuber even said he hated the first couple dozen episodes. His reasons sounded like the most minor and insignificant of "issues" blown so far out of proportion, it was beyond my comprehension of how he even lives in the same reality I do.
</p><p>I really don't get any of this hate or criticism. The first season was great. It's not like the first seasons of most other cartoons have been any better. And how can you even call yourself a fan of this show if you skipped and/or disliked the entire first season of it all? How could you even become a fan at that rate? I really just don't get any of this, and I'd really like to hear some opinions from other fans of the show to get a better picture of the overall outlook. So please, share your opinions down below, and please for the love of Rebecca, don't start arguing. I'm very open minded, and I will try my best to reach an understanding with anyone, even if I don't agree with them. So please, be nice, and let's all have a peaceful discussion about what we all think of the first season and why. Thank you. :)

<p>Yeah, I actually liked season 1 as well, because there are important things in the first season that eventually lead to what's happening now. Sorry if what i'm gonna say next is kinda unrelated, but I really want to tell you all how I became a fan of SU real freaking fast (eventually!):
</p><p>So yeah, it started with me stumbling across a couple of Season 1 episodes while zapping through my favorite cartoon channels, not really caring about the show at all, so I was like: 'Meh, not really that interesting to watch, nothing very serious is happening in it...'
</p><p>So eventually I stopped watching the show for maybe almost a year, until just 4 moths ago I was casually browsing through the interwebs, when I saw a SU image on a website, which reminded me of the show, but it was so much different than back when I saw the first episodes!!! THIS GOT ME THINKING!

</p><p>After a while, I realized big things have happened since I quit watching it, and that I seriously missed out and it felt bad! Then I got this very sudden adrenaline rush (in a good way!), an intense urge saying that I MUST CATCH UP TO EVERY SINGLE LAST EPISODE ever released and I wanna be an active part of the entire SU fandom!
</p><p>So there I was, going online everyday watching all currently released seasons and shorts LIKE CRAZY, until this endless hiatus struck us all. But yeah, S1 was good.

<p>The reason I did not like it was because it was apparently irrelevant to Homeworld (we later learned about the corrupting light) and most episodes were townie episodes.

The second part of Season 1 was one of the best seasons in the show so I don't know what you're talking about.

<p>The first part is probably what kills it tho. Not only was Steven's voice just annoying, but the animation quality was unarguably lower than now. From the first part there really wasn't anything much memorable other than some introductions. Sure, it had Strong In The Real Way, the intro to Lapis, began the Centi arc, and some sweet soundtrack, but overall the characters were undeveloped at that point (To be fair the show had just began).

</p><p>I remember reading in some comments that beach city citizens were the borest or something, but when i started watching the show, i really thought Steven and Peedee were going to hang out more and Beach City would be more part of the plot, but they were turned into something like filler city, that's dissapointing

<p>I really like the first season but it's first halfs has flaws : many townie episodes, lower animation quality, universe not really set by the crew, lore almost completely absent.
