I absolutely hated this one, and I think the hype and hiatus absolutely killed any chance of this being enjoyable even on first watch. Lars being a Space Captain was absolutlely AMAZING back in July, but I went into this episode wondering what they were going to do with that.

He reverted back to a shallow, egotistical self-absorbed jerk- The Lars we all hated.

And that's what the episode is about. it's not "Lars rising to the occasion", the meat of the episode is Lars snivling in his chair because his friend is happy without him and "taking his place" with the Cool Kids.

And also, real jerky move on his part not telling anyone that Emerald wouldn't kill them. I figured it out right away, but everyone else was panicking.

Emerald herself is an embaressment, both as a Yellow Diamond commander and as the episode's antagonist. She's not an intimidating threat, doesn't have the cunning of fellow Beryl Aquamarine, and she doesn't even service the plot in the slightest (Aside from shooting Stevonnie down, but there's a number of ways they could've ended up on Jungle Moon- They did not need Emerald)

And how about that Dogfight? Absurdly short, absolutley tensionless- Stevonnie had no opposition keeping her from destroying Emerald's stuff, and then gets hit by a missile. They build this up like it's going to be this amazing Spacefight, but I swear it takes them longer to get into the ship than it does for them to actually do the fight.

I'm also sick of Padparadscha. Her One-Note schtick was already annoying back in Off-Colors, and it's getting worse.

Maybe- No, I KNOW that I would've liked this episode if I went into it knowing nothing. The Hype of Lars being a space captain, New Ships, Gems- Hype from that would've saved the episode for at least a little while, like what the Dream sequence in Jungle Moon is doing for that episode. But the fact of the matter is, We've seen all the cool stuff- it's been ruminating for months. And all I can do now is see Lars of the Stars for what it is- a bad episode wrapped in a faded facad. And the fact that we're back to Beach City Filler after Jungle Moon is just rubbing salt in the wound.
