<p>Had his mother been another character besides Pink, we would be seeing a completely different character with a totally different story and development. </p>

<p>There's always fanmade comic AUs that give Steven a different Diamond as a parent (White Steven, Yellow Steven, Blue Steven.) It's interesting to explore the idea and how it affects Steven's background, personality, and powers. Ultimately though, it makes sense for Pink to be Steven's mom. As mentioned, the show would be different otherwise. </p>
