ALL POSTSAre all gems produced through Kindergartens, or is that just for Quartzes? 
<p>I've recently been rewatching the show and this has been something that I've been wondering for a while now. As far as I know the only confirmed gems to be produced in Kindergartens are Quartzes, and I feel like it would make more sense that other gems are produced through various other means. Eg. Maybe the Pearls were produced in some portion of the Reef; if the gems are at all related to their real-life equivalents then certainly it would make sense that they're produced in different ways, particularly so for Pearls.
</p><p>Have any of the show creators ever delved deeper into this? I've tried to look for answers on this wiki but it's just come up a bit empty.

<p>To the best of my knowledge the only method other than Kindergartens hinted at was that Pearls were created at the Reef, and are fully customizable to their owners specifications. We know there is a Kyanite colony and we know there are Kindergartens in Homeworld, so I presume different worlds produce minerals and conditions to make specific types of Gems, which would explain why Earth’s Kindergartens predominantly created Quartzes. We also know Pearls are seen as lesser status than even the lowest caste gems. Perhaps their different method of creation at the Reef is a factor in that.

<p>I like to imagine that all Gems (besides Pearls) are created a similar way to Quartz, but are made in different kinds of places depending on status. Like maybe common Gems, like Quartzes and Rubies, are mass produced in kindergartens, whilst higher ranking Gems, like Sapphires and Emeralds, are made in more secure places with more private care given to each Gem developing Gem.
