honestly if there was a fifth diamond, it should be Black Diamond. Also, is it canon that Pink was off-color?

I feel like a Black Diamond wouldn’t work.

I have a black diamond oc and she is not racist (on purpose).

Reshiram and Zekrom from Pokemon and
Lightfury and Toothless from Htttyd are two examples

It’s not just “Black vs White” on it’s own that’s the problem. If all the gems existed in a society that was equal, and there wasn’t a power hierarchy, there wouldn’t be any issues. There’s no issues with there being multiple races in Beach City, for example, because in Beach City, nobody really has power over anyone else.

It’s only when you apply the Social Caste of Homeworld (or any social hierarchy, for that matter) that a Black Diamond becomes an issue. MAYBE you could have Black rule alongside White, but then you have a redundancy issue.

And even if you THINK you can do a Black Diamond well simply by not adhering to stereotypes... it’s not that simple. Once the idea that “this Diamond is Black” is introduced, anything implied that you don’t catch is going to have ramifications. If you accidentally imply White is more powerful or more pure or more perfect, people will latch on to that. That’s why we have so many people who believe Fusion is exclusively a sex metaphor (and stuff like Steg’s overly sexualized appearance and movements despite being a Father-Son fusion doesn’t help).

And no, after Future, and after Season 5, I don’t believe the Crewniverse has the skills and tact to handle something like this. Reshiram and Zekrom are Legendary Pokémon, Toothless and Lightfury are dragons- They’re essentially animals, without a social structure dictated by color or status. The Diamonds ARE a sapient species, very human-like for the most part, and they live in a rigid society ENTIRELY based on status and color.

It’s more than just Black vs White. It’s Black vs White in a society where color and social status are everything.

(I’m going to stop this debate here on my end; This thread is supposed to be about what Gem you’d like to be, I just wanted to clear up some things before we move on.
