Part of my duty as an Admin is finding the line between "protective" and "repressive" in regards to interpreting vague policy. The more relaxed and free I can make this place feel while protecting the more sensitive WC's, the better. Anyways, I hope this post can be used as a precedent to understanding what is and what isn't the kinds of language that can be used on this wiki safely for everyone. <p>I think to understand that you have to understand that Gems, when they choose to be in their human form, perfectly emulate the human body. They have a digestive system, organs and yes, reproductive systems. So when Greg gave Rose his *ahem* "essence", she was capable of fully going through real female pregnancy, however, since she has no "human" DNA to combine with this "essence" (lack of compatible DNA being why there can be no inter-species offspring, like a dog/raccoon or a minotaur) like what would happen with a fully human child, she likely had to use her own magic to complete the creation of a zygote which would then lead to full blown pregnancy. In short, she had to use her own gem or else no baby was even possible, so yeah, she was likely actually pregnant in a very human way because her body was very authentically human. </p><p>Of course this is all speculation, the writers could easily change something as to make it "possible" for gems to experience human pregnancy in some other way. For right now, they're just banking on the suspension of disbelief, which for fantasy, is pretty much a prerequisite of viewers anyways. </p>

<p>0.0 Well, hell of an episode that was. Wasn't expecting the Rose bomb but as soon as I saw a VHS I knew it was coming. I like how they tied in Sadie's reaction to the video and Lars walking in was pretty funny. But I gotta say, my favorite part was when Pearl was just like: "I like to watch you sleep sometimes...and by 'sometimes' I mean often." I freaking lost it. But I also really dug Rose's observations on life and humanity, it really perfectly fit the tone of the person who's been described to us through bits and pieces as a very loving person of all things big and small.
</p><p>I think the big question here is what is Lion's relationship to Rose? We now can confirm that Rose is NOT Lion because she just explained how she is part of Steven, living on as the Gem which grants him powers. So who is he? A product of Gem magic much like the Moss she grew? An animal she imbued with dimensional powers? Hard to tell but the other gems clearly never knew of him, very interesting.

<p>Huh, yep, Johnny's one rude dude. But I don't think a block is fully in order yet. As per regulation, we'll administer a warning first. Why? Because Johnny might not even frequent this site anymore, in fact he hasn't contributed in over a month (since 29th of September), and there might not be a point to it. Second, he may just need to be told that his language is inappropriate and if he doesn't correct his actions, he will get a hefty ban. At any rate, a warning is the more appropriate action at this stage but we thank you for bringing this to our attention.

</p><p>I would like to personally thank everyone involved in the process as we exercise our new board's ability to bring about practical change. As you may have noticed, the date is 11/4/14, the Midterm Election day in the US as well as Anniversary of this awesome show. I hope that this has allowed everyone here to understand the importance of the democratic process and that these principals built America and run our society at the most basic level. It is true that this change is trite and absolutely trivial in the greater scheme of things, but the ideas behind it are solid, and it is change, for better or worse, that we as a community created together.
</p><p>Do not think lightly of this, as of this election day, remember that as citizens, you have the power to create change in the real world as well. Even if it feels small, its very real.

A few days will be allowed for discussion after which a poll will be taken to decide the matter once discussion has ceased, at the conclusion of the discussion and poll, action will or will not be taken as a result. </p><p>To engender a healthy and well informed debate, I will provide possible Pros and Cons and a debate will be started below: </p><p>Pro: The changing of the name will eliminate the potential of confusion and will make navigation and coding easier. Furthermore, "Quartz" being a middle name that was has never been used in the series since its initial introduction in So Many Birthdays, is very trivial and thus, should be added to the character page but not highlighted in the Article title. </p><p>Con: The changing of the name will increase confusion as new wiki members attempt to differentiate between the show article and the character article when linking the name via editing. The middle name ceases confusion by clearly defining the character from the show title. </p><p>Civility is to be remembered at all times, those for the change should start their comment with "For" while those against should write "Opposed" and provide a reason. </p><p>Poll Phase: </p><p>Upon further deliberation, it has become apparent that a majority feel the need to revert the title or at the very least, remove "Quartz" from the title. </p><p>The main consensus being that the common name (name used most often to refer to character) should be used as the article's title. Furthermore, upon inspecting other wikis where the main character's name was also the name of the show, the character's article title was the common name and the full name was supplied in the introduction paragraph or info-box. </p><p>However, to finalize the democratic process, a poll will now be given with options that reflect the consensus of the deliberations below. This poll is to be highlighted for a period of 3 days to allow maximum turnout rates and is to be closed on 11/5/14 00:00:00 (UTC) </p>

</p><p>Of course I enjoy realistic characters with flaws, in fact, Helga of Hey Arnold! is quite possibly my favorite TV character of all time. However, the problem therein lies with the fact that we already know Lars has flaws, they've already been shown as glaring to us throughout the series, we know he's irresponsible, we know he's immature, we know he's introverted, shallow, selfish and extremely callous. They set him up like that and I can't be only one that expected this episode to be the one where they actually show his good side, even just a bit of it, the opportunity was right there at the end. To do something selfless, to be someone worthy of being called a "friend" and help Sadie who's always fought his battles for him. And that never happens, they practically condemn him in this episode. The last thing this episode needed to be was another way of framing Lars' flaws, Sadie, on the other hand, it was nice to see a bit of her flaws showing, but she repented for that selfish action by jumping in the pit. </p><p>Lars never got that kind of repentance, at every turn where he might turn it around, he merely regressed. I'm not looking for a happy-go-lucky Lars that lacks flaws, I'm looking for the core of this character to shine through, that when the cards are down and the chips are on the table, when things turn serious, that he can do something...anything to show that he's the good person Sadie talked about. That's all I look for in these Pseudo-antagonist types, that at their core, they're good people when it matters. It doesn't matter if they act like a jerk the rest of the time, so long as it isn't indicative of their true nature, but it seems Lars' core is that of a cowards and judging by the despondent and apathetic way Sadie treats him at the end, she seems to be seeing that as well. </p><p>Of course, this is mere opinion, if they want to keep Lars in this perpetual state of callousness than its on them, but I assure you, my beef is not with a more "realistically" flawed Lars but with a Lars that refuses to show up and prove himself in any fashion. After all, proving one's self is a core tenant of Coming-of-Age stories and I know Steven isn't the only one "coming of age". </p>

<p>I can't be the only one that sees the underlying character problems with this episode right? I mean, Lars just never showed up, no development for him at all. He complained, he cried, than he got saved and didn't even try to help. Sadie's words especially at the end showed that she could very much just be done with him. (That look of pure apathy was chilling) The only thing left at the end was a deep sense of bitterness and detachment.
</p><p>They gave us Lars as our redeemable jerk character, joining other redeemable jerks such as Nelson (TS), Helga (HA), Cindy (TAoJN:BG), Bufford (PnF) and most recently Patricia (GF). These characters fulfill the role of sometime antagonist who proves to dislike our main character but have enough good qualities that they could not fully be ear marked as another full blown Antagonist. These characters tend to be the most interesting for me because they have arcs to them, they start off as full on jerks but slowly, and through the unwavering nature of our protagonist, they begin to change to the "good" side.
</p><p>And initially it seemed that Lars was on that path, being set up as a jerk up until he pushes it too far in "Lars and the Cool Kids" where he shows he has a limit and a good side. Joking Victim really opened him up and Sadie described a considerate and thoughtful Lars in her story. But this episode, this was such regression, a huge step back. They had a whole episode focused on their actions and all Lars does is complain, cry, cast blame and then do nothing as he gets his arse saved by his friend who is ALWAYS saving his arse. And Sadie's just done with it. "It's not an action to read into." Pretty much sums that up.
</p><p>And also, (and I'll not swear as there are children that roam this site) I can NOT be the only one who was thinking "Dude, Lars, man the #$%@ up!" When he's sitting there crying, when he's pouting, when he sits there and does NOTHING while Sadie fights the monster that was coming after him. All he can be labeled as is pathetic, which is NOT what a good Redeemable jerk makes. We already know he's a jerk, show us his GOOD side, that he can be redeemed, this showed none of that, and is, to me, a huuuge disappointment. Which is a shame because the writers, Raven and Paul, have written some great episodes and this just feels like the ball was dropped big time.

The plot dealt with a more light hearted, much ado about nothing event that doesn't take us to crazy new places or get us pumped with action. I honestly liked it for that reason but I understand why some people have grown accustomed to high-octane and extremely emotional instances, they're what make Steven Universe great but not all episodes can hold that kind of emotional fuel. </p>

<p>Well this is an odd topic, lol. But I must agree with Gnx here, regardless of technicality, they are for all practical means and purposes, female. They're anatomically correct, dress accordingly, and their personalities are all those typical of females and of course, they're capable of producing human offspring, it really doesn't get more female than that. It would be extremely pedantic to want to push a "gender-neutral" stance when the gems are very very clearly not gender neutral. There's little debate to be had, really. I wouldn't hold it past Sugar to deny it though, of course she must carry a level of mystique and intrigue about the Gems just as Ward was about the state of the Earth in Adventure Time before it all fell into place and thus, has to make sure what she says is all very technically correct without showing her hand, etc.
</p><p>The fact that they're technically genderless is little more than a trivia point. After all, if a fictional character acts, looks, speaks and is anatomically described as female...than they're female, and the technicality has little to no impact on anything.

<p>Well, I think its about time somebody coughed up some answers on the incredibly erratic scheduling of this show. Quite frankly its the oddest and most confusing (not to mention frustrating) release schedule I've ever seen. I've done a little bit of research and am attempting to find out more answers. For now I'd like everyone to know exactly what I know concerning scheduling.
</p><p>Q: Are these hiatuses the result of them making them as they go and just taking breaks?
</p><p>A: No, All shows are made by the Season like batches of Cookies. Cartoon Network has slated and paid for a full Season, 26 episodes, and these are pre-made and released as CN sees fit for their programming schedule. Now, if ratings are poor enough, a network will yank a show from its line up and send in a back up show rather than waste precious prime air time.

</p><p>A: To the best of all my knowledge, No. Reviews and ratings have been strong consistently since its start and in fact was CN's most popular show by the end of the 2013 season. Even as recent as early May when viewership was down due to already irregular releases, it ranked 11th out of 166 airings.
</p><p>Q: Is Steven Universe in danger of getting yanked from CN's line up?
</p><p>A: Frankly, that would be viewer suicide, if ratings were poor than there'd be reason for concern. But they have not been and they still show several re-runs throughout the week alongside continued praise from both critics and viewers.

</p><p>A: That's a beautiful question, I wish I knew. I have contacted CN via their Feedback section and requested information on the scheduling. An interesting tidbit I picked up while researching was an article that stated that CN was attempting a different kind of non-traditional scheduling strategy in which they refused an "up front" schedule release (meaning they did not give their advertisers a full list of all airings so that they could bid for times to show ads) and is apparently taking advantage of its recent growth in popularity. Pretty ballsy, but it seems to be jacking with regular scheduling as they shift shows around as they please to maximize their viewership as they see fit, why this then, does not include one of their prime time recent hits may be due to its infancy as a show. I'll keep you guys posted as information rotates in.

</p><p>No, I merely ask for simple answers to which I can not find elsewhere. As it is, I have found myself to become a fan of Steven Universe, however, this show has the most complex episode release schedule I have ever seen. It's remarkably inconsistent, sometimes episodes are released weeks and weeks apart. This is its 1st season and as I've researched, its been getting quite positive reviews. So I can not figure out WHY its been so erratic.
</p><p>In short: I want to know how you schedule your shows, and why the gaps are so large for this particular show. Perhaps a victim of irregular scheduling strategy? I have no clue.

</p><p>The best thing we can do for now is ask for answers. According to wikipedia, the finale is slated for July but I highly doubt another 7 episodes can be crammed within some 8 odd weeks, they'd have to literally break their weird hiatus streak by next week at the latest.
