I seriously enjoyed this theory, and would like to present a similar one of my own as to why she is absent. This leans a bit more on the made-up part of it, but altogehter i think it makes sense and adds alot of character depth to all the diamonds. Lets back up a little bit and start with this:

I believe that somehow, in some way, BLUE Diamond (Henceforth called BD) was responsible for the shattering of Pink Diamond (PD). Here's the catch: it was somehow an accident. And the fact utterly wrecked BD. So much so that it even turned her hair white (if you look at her mural in the moon base, there is no white hair), perhaps in shock when she found out that she was responsible for her sister's death. She became unresponsive and ruined by the grief and guilt, and maybe even began losing control of her pathokinesis and it affected the mood of all of Homeworld. SO her sisters Yellow and White Diamond (YD and WD) tried to help her.

Here's how WD comes into play. I think that WD might have the ability to manipulate and control a gem's memories. And so, in order to cover up the story and protect their sister from the grief, YD and WD blamed their youngest sister's shattering on the already well known villain and rebel, Rose Quartz, and WD changed the memories of any witnesses and all connected to the incident to match the story.

This is why the story didn't add up in "The Trial", it was a rush job, before the story of BD's involvement spread too far and in order to heal their sister as quickly as possible. Also, the Diamonds have never seen Rose in action, so they don't know that her sword can't shatter a gem. This is also why YD was so reluctant to have the trial and REFUSED to allow Blue Zircon to continue after accusing the Diamonds, AND maybe even why she wants to destroy everything related to PD. She was worried that if too many inaccuracies are pointed out in the trial, or if BD notices something at PD's Palanquin or the Zoo, the memories that are buried and locked away in BD's mind will break free and all their work will be for nothing.

NOW, the reason WD isn't anywhere to be found. IF all this is true, then seeing WD might be a trigger for BD's memory to break free. WD may have even had to remove herself from BD's memories altogether, and that's why we only see White in the ancient bases from before PD's shattering. In my theory at least, WD isn't guilty, she is simply staying away to protect her sister from her own mind. I really hope this theory is at least partially true, becuase YD would no longer be a heartless tyrant who has no time for justice. Instead, YD becomes the protective sister who would do ANYTHING for BD. BD's unrelenting grief makes sense, because her brain subconsciously knows the truth and is still hurting.

Just my two cents (or i guess if its this long, my dollar LOL)
