<p>I think the Rubies might have bad long-range vision. They seem to be built for hand to hand brawling, maybe their eyes are optimized for close-range vision. </p>

<p>We're supposed to be getting new episodes in Juny, July and August, so I'm pretty sure we'll get at least half of Season 3, and we might even get the entire season. </p><p><i>(They changed the season numbering. Season 2A got relabelled as Season 2, Season 2B got relabelled as Season 3, and the two halves of the old Season 3 is now season 4 and 5.)</i> </p>

<p>They've finished writing & storyboarding & recording the voice tracks, but there's plenty of work left after that, animation and colouring and music and compositing all take time. </p><p>It takes about 9-12 months to make an episode from start to finish. If voice recording is about 1/3 of the way thorugh and they finished recording the dialogue for the season finale back in November, the episode might might not be finished until July. </p><p>(I mean, yeah, they've definitely finished a bunch of Season 3 episodes already, but probably not all of them yet.) </p>

<p>I think there are probably a few big fators: </p>

They've been making about 35 episodes per year. That's more than a traditional 26 episode season, but it's not enough to fill up the calendar.
They've probably done a bunch of calculations showing that having different popular shows airing at different times of the year was better for their overall ratings than lumping together all the popular shows in spring & fall and leaving nothing but reruns in summer.
They've probably also done some calculations showing that special events like the StevenBombs are good for ratings.

<p>Because of those factors, they probably decided that the best option would be to save up a bunch of episodes so they could air them together over the summer for the Summer of Steven event. </p><p>Oh, also, CN decided to change the way that seasons are labelled. </p> <table><tr><th>Episodes</th><th>Old Number</th><th>New Number </th></tr><tr><td>1-26</td><td>Season 1A</td><td>Season 1A </td></tr><tr><td>27-52</td><td>Season 1B</td><td>Season 1B </td></tr><tr><td>53-76</td><td>Season 2A</td><td>Season 2 </td></tr><tr><td>77-104</td><td>Season 2B</td><td>Season 3 </td></tr><tr><td>105-130</td><td>Season 3A</td><td>Season 4 </td></tr><tr><td>131-156</td><td>Season 3B</td><td>Season 5 </td></tr></table><p>I'm guessing they probably did it because "5 month break between Season 2 and Season 3" sounds better than "5 month hiatus in the middle of Season 2". </p>
