The Ancient Sky Arena is a location that is first seen in "Sworn to the Sword". It is said to be where the first Gem battles in the Rebellion took place. Pearl currently uses the area to train Steven and Connie.

Description

The arena is set floating around clouds in the sky, with a Warp Pad in the front of the structure, a four colored lozenge symbol of the Great Diamond Authority behind it along with small circles (resembling the Galaxy Warp). There are stairs to the left and right of the entrance which lead to the arena's center. The arena is in ruins: the structure shows signs of damage throughout, debris can be seen floating nearby, and a significant portion appears to be missing. Above the entrance to the arena are four large octahedrons colored and positioned in the design of the Great Diamond Authority symbol, with the pink portion somewhat destroyed. Three statues of Gems holding weapons can be seen in the center of the arena. The first one on the left wields a sword and appears very similar to Yellow Diamond. Her gemstone is placed on her chest. The second Gem on the right wields a spear and has her gemstone placed where her nose would be, similar to Jasper's. The third Gem on the far right has her gemstone placed on her forehead and wields a mace. The fourth Gem statue is on the far left, but cannot be made out due to being destroyed save for the legs. Gem writing is seen on the columns next to the statues. Hexagonal holes that look like windows can be seen underneath the structure on the ruined end.

History

"Sworn to the Sword"

Pearl mentions that some of the earliest battles for Earth took place in this arena during the Crystal Gems' rebellion against the Gem Homeworld. This was where Pearl first understood the concept of chivalry and what it meant to be a knight: to be completely dedicated to a person and cause. Throughout the episode, Pearl tries to instill this concept into Connie with regards to Steven as she teaches her how to fight with a sword.

"It Could've Been Great"

Schematics for the Ancient Sky Arena are seen on the Moon Base's computer display.

"Steven vs. Amethyst"

Steven and Amethyst participate in Pearl's training competition at the arena. Steven and Amethyst later hold a fight here to determine who is the worse Gem. The battle leaves a fair deal of collateral damage on the arena, much to Pearl's dismay.

"Mindful Education"

Steven and Connie practice their sword techniques as Stevonnie under Pearl and Garnet's supervision at the arena. It is also revealed that the arena floats over a mountainous area with grassy fields.

"Now We're Only Falling Apart"

Pearl and Pink Diamond are seen viewing the schematics for the arena on the Moon Base.

Trivia

• The structure appears to have been constructed before Pink Diamond's faked shattering due to the presence of the former Great Diamond Authority symbol.
  • The four floating octahedrons forming the same symbol at the peak of the arena show severe damage to the pink one, possibly foreshadowing the revelation of Pink Diamond's demise.
