I find it strange that everyone treats her future vision as the ultimate dues-ex-mechana when let's be honest. It's future vision.
She can't see something she doesn't have a chance of seeing. It seams to require her to activate it to work (ie; it doesn't run constantly in the background) and from what we've seen free will effects these choices perfectly normally meaning whatever she sees may be irrelivent anyhow... Look at Weather Forcast.
Steven never actually saw the happy ending version until he actually did it.
I think you may have misunderstood my point. See, while yes future vision doesn't grant an absolute picture of the future; heck Garnet herself made that clear in Future Vision. But it would give her the possibility of the Slinker still lurking in the temple, and therefore would give her the motivation to try and find it. It's likely a small percentage, sure, but I think, being Garnet she would at least try to look for it if she saw it as a possibility.
And apparently I was right on that point since it was enough for her to track it down into Amethyst's room. The whole point I was trying to make is that there's no way that the Slinker, on its own anyway, could have been this discrete this long without any of the Big Three knowing about it to some capacity. I think there are some closed doors regarding the Slinker that need to be opened.
Actually Pearl was the first to know of the Slinker's presence/see it so it wasn't discreet at all. They all had prior knowledge & Garnet only acted when she herself saw the creature and followed it into Amethyst's room. You're giving her future vision and the creature too much credit. If there were more significance to the creature that would've been emphasized but it was only a device to have Amethyst retreat into her gem.
Yes, Pearl was the first to SIGHT it, but it wasn't proven until Garnet confirmed. For all they knew it could have just been a figment of an overactive imagination.
Really? Because it's what I'm theorizing that explains what most would consider plot holes in other episodes. Like why Garnet puts so much faith in the inexperienced Steven (though who he's descended from is no doubt a factor too, but I digress), or why Garnet always goes with her gut and not strategize much in the grand scheme of things.
And no other Gem monster could do that? Just saying, there were alternatives to this Audrey 2 knockoff. Examples? How about a callback to the invisble Gem Monster in Island Adventure? Or how about the haunting Gem in Horror Club? There were several different ways they could have went with this and instead went with one that has an apparent obsession with Amethyst. Then again, maybe in its humanoid form, the Slinker was like Jasper, thinking of certain Gems as weakened ones to be picked off.
