Welcomes! P.S. Thanks for the help and review as well.
This has been an idea that was sticking with me for around two years now. The information is in the link, but as a summary, it's meant to tell editors what to do so the wiki can have more consistent and helpful pages.
Since it's just been introduced, I expect the wiki has a good amount of questions about what it says to do. I'll answer some that I expect to hear:
- 1 - If it was something that stuck to you for two years, does that mean it's outdated?
- A - Not exactly, though there are some parts that might need further review.
- 2 - Since it has been introduced, what is to be expected?
- A - I expect the wiki to attempt applying what is stated on the MoS. However, because it is also new and questions are being asked, I predict the MoS may be updated more frequently than expected. Once the establishment phase is over, I also expect further changes or additions to require voting like the other policy changes require.
- 3 - The audio section in Manual of Style/Files says it is undergoing construction due to FANDOM "sunsetting" the youtube syntax. What is the current criteria you're thinking about?
- A - Here is what I was thinking with, for example, the soundtrack music:
- format: Ogg (Sophie suggests requesting Wikia to enable MP3 uploading)
- bitrate: 128 kb/s (for copyright reasons; audio should not replace high fidelity)
- channels: 2 (Left & Right because a surround-sound studio is not a priority)
- then some text saying the audio doesn't intend to replace, for example, the SU soundtrack with fidelity, etc. for copyright and respectful reasons. I'll try to think of some more tomorrow if necessary.
- 4 - Why does the MoS not state everything? There are people text-wrapping!
- A - Unfortunately, I cannot think of everything without making each MoS page too large. What I did notice, however, is more edits include people text-wrapping for no reason. I suspect it is an editor error. In that case, please switch to "source editor" from "visual editor" in Special:Preferences to see if that issue gets fixed. You need the source editor to do most of the edits requested in Project:Manual of Style/Organization anyway. Other than that, I am attempting somewhat to look out for more abnormalities that should be addressed via policy. Let me know of any with the questions.
That's about it from what I can think of. Overall, I hope the Manual of Style can establish standards and clear away the many questions one has about editing with what is allowed, what isn't, and what is actually intended.
