Chert is a Gem that debuted in "Homeworld Bound". She was released from a forced fusion, with the help of Yellow Diamond.

Appearance

Chert has ivory hair with a short ponytail, she wears a grayish dark brown cloak on her shoulders, a shaded brown shirt with beige details, brown pants, and dark beige boots. Her gem is on the nose and her skin is warm dull orange, with her eyes being brown. Her facial profile is softer than that of other Quartzes, with rounded cheeks and thinner lips. She is also slightly shorter than the average Quartz Gem, making it quite possible that she's defective.

Personality

Little is known about her personality. She seemed happy and overjoyed when Flint was healed.

History

Pre-Series

At some point before the events of the series Chert was deemed defective for having a moral detachment to fighting and was shattered. Her shards were then used in Yellow Diamond's early forced fusion experiments.

"Homeworld Bound"

Chert (after having her gemstone fixed offscreen) watched Yellow Diamond reassemble Flint's gemstone, by placing the shards, piece by piece. When she reformed, her limbs were stretched out, due to her gemstone missing a few pieces. Luckily, Yellow used her powers to fix Flint's limbs and return them to their normal size. Chert then welcomes her back and happily hugs her friend.

"The Future"

While Steven is driving away, she and Flint are seen posing, while Pink Pearl takes their picture.

Abilities

Chert possesses standard Gem abilities: bubbling, shapeshifting, fusion, regeneration, agelessness, gravity shifting, photokinesis, gem storage, and superhuman strength/durability.

Unique Abilities

• Spin Dash: Although it was never shown, Chert is a Quartz soldier, enabling her to rapidly roll in a ball-like shape to attack enemies.

Trivia

• Chert and her friend, Flint, were supposed to be Off Colors, according to the writers Matt Burnett and Ben Levin.
• Chert is the second revived Gem shown in the series thus far. The first was Jasper.
  • She is the fourth known character overall in the show's canon to have died and been brought back to life, the first three being Lion, Lars and Jasper.
• She and Flint are the only Quartzes to not have defined lips.

Gemstone

	Chert's gemstone is located on her nose with a hexagonal facet. Its overall shape is circular. There is a small crack on the right side of the gemstone due to Yellow Diamond not being able to find all her pieces.
