"The Classroom Gems: Fusion" (referred to as "The Classroom Gems: Special Lesson" in the title card) is a Classroom Gems short.
Synopsis[]
The Gems teach Steven all they know about fusion.
Plot[]
The episode begins with Garnet punching the title card and exclaiming that she's going to teach the viewers about fusion, which prompts her to unfuse into Ruby and Sapphire. Pearl then explains that fusion is very difficult to achieve; Gems must be in perfect sync physically, mentally, and emotionally. The four characters perform separate fusion dances: Ruby and Sapphire fuse back into Garnet, while Pearl and Amethyst fuse into Opal. Garnet further explains that the new forms gained through fusion have extra body parts as well as combined height and strength from the fusing Gems. However, fusion is challenging for Gems that struggle to collaborate. This is illustrated when Opal loses her balance and unfuses back into Pearl and Amethyst. An irritated Pearl criticizes Amethyst for not collaborating effectively, but Amethyst counters by questioning Pearl's own ability to collaborate. Garnet then shows a clip highlighting various fusions throughout the series, including Sugilite and Stevonnie. At this point, Steven interrupts with a question about the main purpose of fusion. With Garnet's encouragement, the Crystal Gems fuse into Alexandrite, strike a pose, and collectively respond with "Love!" The episode concludes with a title card that reads "Class Dismissed."

Trivia[]
- Neither Opal nor Alexandrite have their new regeneration outfits, despite Amethyst and Garnet already having reformed.
- This could be intentional to avoid spoilers.
Cultural References[]

- When the 3 Gems fuse into Alexandrite, she makes a pose with a background similar to that of the Powerpuff Girls franchise, where a pulsating heart background is seen with the girls posing at the end of each episode.
- The short, as well as "How Are Gems Made?" and "What Are Gems?", is a homage to the Gunbuster OVA called "Science Lessons".[1]
Errors[]
- While Garnet is fusing, Ruby and Sapphire's gems switch.
- Despite all the Gems appearing to look "chibi", Steven is the only Gem who didn't retain this appearance from the previous lessons.
- When Amethyst and Pearl fuse into Opal, despite having their new regenerated forms, she has her debut outfit.
- The same error appears when the Gems fuse in Alexandrite.
