The Harmony Core is an object which made its first appearance in the Steven Universe: Harmony comics. It serves as the central focus of the series.
Appearance[]
The Harmony Core is a heart-shaped gemstone, somewhat similar to Spinel's gemstone.
History[]
Over 6,000 Years Ago[]
At some point after Pink Diamond was given Earth, The Harmony Core was created to subdue entire planets without hurting organic life. However, it was never activated on Earth during the gem war.
Steven Universe: Harmony[]
In Issue 1, while looking through Homeworld's Data Stone archive, Topaz accidentally knocked over a Harmony Core, causing all of the others on Earth to activate. After seeing this in a vision, Garnet had Steven, Pearl, Amethyst, and Peridot venture to the Beachside Harmony Core Temple temple. After battling the Harmony Core Sentries, they retrieved the first core, Steven putting it into a bubble. However, he was unable to send it back to the Temple, and so he was made to sit and hold it until the gems could figure out what to do with it. Later that day, Greg came to visit, and the core began to glow. After a bright flash, Greg fell over, his eyes glowing bright. The bright glow also made its way to Sour Cream, causing him to faint with glowing eyes as well.
In Issue 2, it is revealed that several Beach City residents had been sent into comas because of the Harmony Core's bright light. It was also revealed that their consciences had teleported to an unknown location (which Steven) was able to access while sleeping. During Steven's sleep, the Harmony Core came unbubbled, but he was quickly able to bubble it again once we woke up. Meanwhile, Garnet, Peridot, and Pearl had gone back to the Harmony Core Temple to look for clues. After not finding anything, they realized that some of the Sentries had warped to the temple. Back at the temple, Amethyst arrived to find Steven asleep, Connie unconscious, and the Sentries trying to take back the core. She rapped around it with her whip and tried to touch it with her bear hands, but this caused her to revert to her gem, her conscious being sent to the realm with the others.
In Issue 3, Steven reveals that he saw dozens of Harmony Cores during his dream. The Gems decided that their next course of action would be to find the rest of the cores and destroy them. Peridot used her tablet to track the waves that were being emitted by the Harmony Cores, leading her and Pearl to the Island Harmony Core Temple. They both jumped into the water and spotted the Harmony Core resting in the palm of an old Gem statue. While approaching the Harmony Core, they were confronted by aquatic Harmony Core Sentries, who they proceeded to fend off. Peridot made her way to the Harmony Core and bubbled it, but after being hit by a Sentry, it popped and she was sent to the same realm of consciousness as the other victims of the Harmony Cores. Pearl then bubbled the Core and brought it back to the Temple. Pearl eventually realized that the Cores are working like radios, communicating with one another through waves. She then began to sing a melody, which merged the two Cores but caused her to be sent to the realm of consciousness.
In Issue 4, Pearl and the others who were trapped in the realm of consciousness were able to harmonize with the Harmony Cores through singing. This allowed for their voices to be heard over the radio and through the Harmony Cores themselves. After Steven harmonized with their song, he was able to astro-project to their realm. There, he talked with Peridot, who realized that her hypothesis was right. She determined that in order to be set free, all three Harmony Core sentries on Earth would need to be neutralized (the others that were scattered throughout the galaxy being too far away to matter). However, Steven and Amethyst wanted to find a way to destroy the rest across the galaxy in order to free the many other gems who also might be trapped inside of Harmony Cores. Pearl agreed, and began to prepare to send out a new signal. Meanwhile, all of the human consciousness' had been set free, allowing for them to return to their physical bodies. Once he was back in his body, Steven told Garnet where to find the final Harmony Core. Garnet then warped to the Antarctic Harmony Core Temple, where she faced off against a large Sentry with the Harmony core in place of its face. After a long battle, she retrieved it and brought it back to Steven. Back at Beach City, Steven had gathered a crowd of citizens to prepare a melody that would be powerful enough to destroy the rest of the Harmony Cores across the galaxy. After he combined the final Harmony Core, they began their song, but unfortunately, a security protocol was activated, summoning a giant Sentry.
In Issue 5, it is revealed that the Sentry was created from the Harmony Core that was activated on Homeworld. Garnet and Amethyst began to fight it, fusing into Sugilite. Peridot deduced that they would have to harmonize in order to defeat it. Sadie and her band began to sing, which distracted the monster. During their song, the gems continued to fight the monster, Peridot eventually defeating it after slamming a guitar into its foot. This set the Harmony Core in its head free. Buck discovered it in the rubble, causing Sadie to snatch it out of his hand for his own safety. The Core then began to fly in the air, presumably going back to Homeworld. The gems fused into Alexandrite, saved Sadie, and destroyed the Core with her bow.
Abilities[]
- Consciousness Teleportation: The Harmony Cores have the ability to teleport the consciousness' of both natural and Gem life to another realm. Natural life, such as humans, will have their bodies remained in an unconscious state with glowing eyes. Gems will have their physical bodies sent back into their gems. Natural life is sent to this plane of consciousness when the Harmony Cores glow very brightly, while artificial life is sent there if they make physical contact with the Core itself.
- Waves: Each of the Harmony Cores power one another through powerful waves. These waves work in harmony with one another, and allows them to be combined. These waves can be harnessed through music, which the Gems in the unconscious realm used to communicate with the physical world.
