This article is about Jades. You may be looking for The Jade fusion. |
The Jades are a broad type of Homeworld Gem, high enough in the established hierarchy to attend the Era 3 Ball in "Together Alone". They have been seen in at least nine distinct subtypes, with a couple of the subtypes shown possessing several very distinct color varieties, and the others possessing differing shades.
Two Jades (considered two different types of Gems due to the fact of being from different courts and having different appearances) fuse after they see Stevonnie, Garnet, and Opal form, forming Lemon Jade and subsequently being poofed by Yellow Diamond.
All Jade-type Gems have been voiced in the show by Aparna Nancherla.
Role
The Jades appear to be high up in Gem society, being one of the few Gem types to attend the Era 3 ball. They appear to be the common aristocrat, with a high rank, but ranking lower than Sapphires.
Physical Characteristics
Jades appear in many different variations, each with slightly varying characteristics. Features consistent to the type as a whole include a small slightly rounded chest, and within Homeworld society, they all seem to wear floor-length dresses. Their height is somewhere around that of Lapis Lazuli, although some varieties possess slight height variations. Most Jades possess downturned, bridged noses, although several lack noses or possess small upturned noses.
Main Jades
- Lemon Jade's Right Cheek Gem - A gem serving Yellow Diamond who fused with a Jade in Blue Diamond's court. She is of the "Cat Ear" Jade variety.
- Lemon Jade's Left Cheek Gem - A gem serving Blue Diamond who fused with a Jade in Yellow Diamond's court. She is of the "Flipped-Out Bob" Jade variety.
Other Jades
"Hammerhead" Jades
These round-headed Jades have hair/headwear resembling a sideways cylinder. They have rounded shoulder puffs. Their skirts resemble hexagonal cogs seen from above.

"High-Bun" Jades
These Jades have squarish heads with curly hairdos in a high bun. They have winged shoulder puffs, and their skirts resemble an 8-spiked star or gear from above.
In the video game Unleash the Light, a "High Bun" Jade appears without the cog skirt. This may signify either that the cog skirt is an aesthetic element used only during the Diamond balls, or that due to the isolated nature of the colony, the Jades in Colony Blue 4 have strayed away from the fashion norms Homeworld dictated.

Trivia
- Jades in real life are divided in two types that correspond to the distinction in color/quality they can be found as. While the colors don't seem to effect their roles in the show, they appear to noticeably effect their visual appearance.
- Most valuable jades are green or slightly yellowish
- Other lower colors include purple, lavender, white, grey, orange and red.
- The mechanical appearance of lower jades seem to have been created as a metaphor for how the Gem Homeworld was prior to the events of "Change Your Mind": uptight, strict and everyone was required to be as precise and perfect as a clock mechanism.
- In the larger ballroom scenes in "Together Alone", many Jades are shown which are physically identical in all regards (gemstone placement included) to Jades shown previously (including Lemon Jade's components), the reason for this is unknown, but it is likely to simply fill crowd space in the scene.
- Out of the types of Gems seen thus far in the series, Jades seem to have the most radically different appearances between subtypes.

Concept Art
- Notably, in Tom Herpich's concept art for "Together Alone", one of the Jade sketches (pictured above) is a variety of Jade not seen in the finalized episode. Her face and hair resembles Lemon Jade's component of the dark green variety. She appears to wear a bell-shaped dress with 10 rectangular gear teeth pointing out from it, as well as a shawl around her upper body, it appears as if she could be wearing gloves, but the details cannot be seen. Her gemstone is located on her forehead.
- In the same concept sketch, the "conehead" variety Jades are drawn with visible ears, in the final version of the episode these are removed, seemingly intentionally.
- Several individual Jades also didn't make it into the final episode (while their types as a whole did), these Jades (pictured above) include:
- A "high bun" Jade with her gemstone located on her bun.
- A yellow "hammerhead" Jade.
- A green "hammerhead" Jade.
