- In dating Shep, Sadie is revealed to be bisexual/biromantic or pansexual/panromantic.
- This was hinted at in "Alone Together" in Sadie blushing when Stevonnie enters and orders a donut at The Big Donut.
- Steven leans on the fourth wall by saying he had not seen Lars and Sadie's relationship development that happened offscreen.
- The items on the menu at Lars' bakery "Spacetries" are all space-related pastry puns.
- "Croissant Moon" is a combination of "croissant" and "crescent moon".
- "Black Donut Holes" is a combination of "donut holes" and "black hole".
- "Galileo Gallette" is a combination of "gallette" (a type of flat round French cake) and Galileo Galilei (an influential Italian astronomer, 1564–1642).
- "Chocolate Ship Cookie" is a combination of "chocolate chip cookie" and "ship" (as in space ship).
- "Oortmeal Raisin Cookie":
- "Total Eclipse of the Tart" is a combination of "tart", "eclipse", and "Total Eclipse of the Heart" (a 1983 hit song by Bonnie Tyler).
- "Red Dwarf Velvet Cake" is a combination of "red velvet cake" and "red dwarf" (a type of star).
Cultural References
- The musical instrument that Shep plays is known as an Electronic Wind Instrument, or EWI.
- In one scene where Steven visits Lars at his work, the menu board features two menu choices which reference song lyrics or titles:
- Total Eclipse of the Tart is a reference to Bonnie Tyler's hit song, Total Eclipse of the Heart, released in 1983.
- Galileo Gallete, in addition to referencing astronomer Galileo Galilei, may be a reference to the Galileo operatic interlude taken from the British rock band Queen's song "Bohemian Rhapsody", featured in their 1975 album A Night at the Opera.
Continuity
- In addition to Lars and Sadie, this episode reveals what The Cool Kids have been doing since their last appearance.
