Onion's Birthday Tape is a VHS tape that first appeared in "Onion Friend". It's a recording of Vidalia giving birth to Onion. It was given to him as a present for one of his birthdays.
Appearance
The case is maroon and has a caption that reads "Happy Birthday Onion" with a small heart next to it.
Content of Video
In the episode you can hear but not see what is going on. The video was recorded in a hospital. Vidalia tells Yellowtail that she is about to give birth, and then can be heard grunting in obvious distress.
Reception
Steven was very uncomfortable and shocked by the look on his face. Onion did not seem to have any reaction towards the video, most likely because he has already watched it.
Trivia
- To answer the question whether Onion showed this video to Steven to prove he's human, Matt Burnett revealed that the original idea for the scene was to show the "weirdest thing Onion could possibly do".[1]
- In another tweet, Matt says that the crew had to work with Cartoon Network's Broadcast Standards and Practices team to allow "Onion Friend" to air, referring to the tape scene with the hashtag #HappyBirthdayOnion.[2]
- The tape now disproves common speculation and theories, and in fact confirms that Onion is biologically human.
