- This episode was Drew Green's favorite episode that he worked on.[1]
- This is the first episode where Steven's jacket does not appear at all.
- It is revealed that Steven has problems with the Gems:
- He doesn't want to tell Pearl about his problems because he doesn't want to stress her out.
- He's annoyed by Garnet acting high and mighty, as well as her speeches.
- He's tired of Amethyst acting like she's mature.
- The episodes title is a play on prickly pear, a fruit that comes from a cactus and prickly pair, referring to both cactus steven for obvious reasons, and Steven for his increasing anxiety and frustrations.

- The plot is a reference to Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein were the main character creates a sentient lifeform that acts like a monster out of confusion and aggression.
