Ruby, also known as Giant Ruby in the credits of "Back to the Moon", is the fusion of "Doc", "Eyeball", "Navy", "Army", and "Leggy". She made her debut in the episode "Hit the Diamond".
Appearance
As her components' forms and gemstones are the same (excluding the gemstone that is located where her left pupil would be instead of where her entire left eye would be), she remains identical, except for being larger in size and having a slight outfit variation (including Doc's yellow visor). Her gemstones are located on her chest, where her left pupil would be, navel, left shoulder, and left thigh.
Personality
In, "Hit the Diamond", she threateningly asks for the location of Jasper in a firm and interrogative tone, which matches Doc, Eyeball, and Army's personalities. However, once given an answer, her voice became higher and happier (a complete mood swing), which matches Navy and Leggy's personalities. In "Back to the Moon", she tells Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl that they "can't trick them again." After Steven opens the airlock, Giant Ruby holds onto the doorframe to keep from being swept out, telling Steven that he "can't get rid of them that easy."
She does not identify as her own being, saying "tell us where Jasper is now," "we won't let you trick us again," and "you can't get rid of us that easy."
History
"Hit the Diamond"
After learning they have been tricked, the Rubies fuse to form Giant Ruby. Peridot then runs out of the barn and attempts to surrender herself in exchange for the safety of her friends. Giant Ruby, much to Peridot's surprise, asks where Jasper is. Peridot is unable to answer so Steven covers for her and tells Giant Ruby that Jasper is on the planet Neptune. Giant Ruby, seemingly appeased, unfuses.
"Back to the Moon"
After the Rubies realize they have been tricked again, Doc orders them to assemble and they fuse into Giant Ruby to fight the Crystal Gems. Steven opens the airlock and the vacuum of space sucks Giant Ruby halfway out the door. Giant Ruby tells Steven that he "can't get rid of them that easy." They both turn and watch as Sardonyx forms. She smashes her hammer into Giant Ruby, forcing her to unfuse, separating the Rubies as they are sucked out into space.
Abilities
Ruby possesses standard Gem abilities: bubbling, shapeshifting, fusion, regeneration, agelessness, gravity shifting, weapon-Summoning, photokinesis, gem storage, and superhuman strength/durability.
Unique Abilities
- Heat Generation/Pyrokinesis: As a Ruby fusion, she can increase the temperature and generate heat.
- Pyrokinetic Touch: This ability allows her to set fire to whatever she touches.
- Fire Dash: She can move at high speed by forming a fireball around herself.
- Heat Resistance: Rubies naturally have heat resistance.

Relationships
Crystal Gems
In "Hit the Diamond", after the Crystal Gems trick her components into playing a game of baseball to stall their chances of finding Jasper, she is formed and is extremely angry. She is formed again in "Back to the Moon", determined to get revenge on the Crystal Gems for tricking her components again.
Jasper
In "Hit the Diamond", she asks where Jasper is, as the reason why her components were sent to Earth was to retrieve her. Jasper most likely leaves a good impression on her, like her components.
Trivia
- Most of her components made their debut in "Hit the Diamond", with Eyeball being the only one who debuted in "Barn Mates".
- The ruby is closely associated with aspects such as vitality, life, passion, and fire, all of which can be symbolically linked to the color red.
Gemstones
Image | Description |
---|---|
Giant Ruby's five gemstones are located on her chest (Doc), where her left pupil would be (Eyeball), navel (Navy), left shoulder (Army), and left thigh (Leggy), corresponding with her components' gemstone locations (excluding the gemstone that is located where her left pupil would be instead of where her entire left eye would be). Her red gemstones each have a square aspect, a symmetrical front and back, and a light pink ring around them, usually hidden inside her body. The gemstones are decahedrons, specifically truncated tetragonal dipyramids. |
