"Saved the Light" is a song from the credits of the video game Save the Light. It is a rock song sung by Greg Universe.
This charming rock song, complete with vocals, celebrates the completion of the game in a major key and in three main parts.
The first part is a simple progression in C; this section's role is to introduce the main instruments, rhythm, and overall feeling of the piece. It first opens without Greg's lyric accompaniment, though he promptly joins in after the first loop.
A change of chord progression later occurs, marking the second segment of the song. This chord progression features the only minor-sounding section of the piece; the previous heavy-hitting of the drum kit is also brought down in intensity and note density a little, making this segment seem much moodier than the last. This much calmer bridge soon brings about the unexpected turn of the third section.
After a short several second pause in Greg's singing and the music, the same chord progression from the first section reemerges, except the tempo has gone through a dramatic increase, ramping up the intensity of the song until the end of the credits. There is no proper resolution to the final repeat of the chord progression, making it sound unfinished; it does, however, put extra emphasis on Greg's humorous ending comment towards Steven.
Lyrics
Adventure is not my nature, but I’d never trade my place with my friends. With my son and... You gave me courage, you gave me hope, You found the way to bring us home again, Again~ I've never seen so many beautiful places Filled with so many frightening faces. I wonder if people will know what we’ve done for this world..? AND IT’S GONNA BE ALRIGHT! 'Cause we've gone and saved the light! And together we will fight, 'Cause we always save the light! And now it's time to say good night! (spoken) Hey, Steven, could you go ahead and... Get the light? *presses switch* Thanks, Shtoo-Ball! |
