I'm pretty sure that, now that we've seen three different types of homeworld non-fusion Garnets, it's clear that the turtleneck gems are Garnets of some type. Maybe Transvaal Jades, which are a type of Garnet but named after their Jade appearance? The other possibility are Tsavorites but the turtleneck gems are not that yellowy...
