  • I see that the Bluebird Azurite article is still locked and unable to be edited (at least by users) and I was wondering when the time will come when the page is unlocked. CrystalMomSquad said it was locked until things "cooled down" (referring to the edit war I was in during December) but it's been about ten days since then and nothing has changed. I don't want the page to open so I can change the quote again, as we really don't need another edit war on our hands, but because I want an explanation and solution for the inactivity for the Bluebird Azurite article.

    • I actually agree; things have cooled significantly. I also think Shep's page should be unlocked as their page is incomplete.

    • Thanks for the support. Unfortunately, the page is still locked and there don't seem to be any plans to change it.

    • in general the rampant locking needs to stop, nothing ever gets done because of it

    • True.

Admittedly I have also gotten tired of it, it was fine when they would temporarily lock a page that was receiving a great deal of vandalism but I feel like they use that "indefinitely" button a bit too much (or whatever button it is to set the lock time to "indefinite") at times.

You guys make good points. I just hope this will be addressed by the wiki staff soon.

    • its been going on for years now, probably not, but it'd be nice if they eventually decided to stop because we've put up with it long enough

    • It would, huh?

    • Okay. I'm just going to say this. The staff are only doing their jobs. So, stop complaining about what they are doing. Y'all should appreciate them instead of complaining about what they are doing.

You're right...to a certain extent. You honestly make it sound like all we do is complain and while it may seem like that at times, we honestly just want to see the wiki improve and sometimes the mods, whether intentional or not, make that hard (or at least harder than it needs to be) an example is, as we've said, the overlocking pages/leaving them locked for far longer than they need to.

    • It's also usually a matter of forgetting to unlock a page. It's also because, for me, I continue to have the hierarchical mindset that the administrators must be the decision makers, even when I can also unprotect pages (so I'm sort of scared of doing things on my own).

I went ahead and gave the following pages the appropriate parameters:

      • Bluebird Azurite: Editable by all users; page name cannot be changed
      • Shep: Editable by autoconfirmed and above; page name cannot be changed

I don't know of other pages that users feel should be editable again, so do some namedrops, and I'll consider it (pages like Pink Diamond, for example, don't need users to edit it; just tell an admin/bureaucrat/patroller, and the page remains complete)

      Cheers

    • Thanks.

    • honestly i didn't know timed locks were a thing since this wiki doesn't seem to use them

forgetting to unlock a page is probably why thats an option, i could see it being rather helpful

        Loading editor
    • Here's the problem: the vandal or troll simply has to wait out the timer. By being "indefinite", they don't know when a page will be ripe to vandalism again. That's my idea around using "indefinite" protection, since it will eventually be unprotected; you just don't know when.

I guess I could keep an eye on the protection logs more, but again, just namedrop pages on my message wall and I'll consider them.

    • wikia probably doesn't have this option, but what if the page was locked for a set period of time so that it doesn't have to be manually unlocked, but it didn't tell regular users when that would be

again probably not an option wikia has, but wouldn't it be useful

        Loading editor
    • That does sound pretty uselful, SP.

        Loading editor
    • it has that option, it's just easier to not do that because of the constant, unrelenting vandalism that everyone has seemed for forgotten about? They will have to become locked again if the unproductive and harmful edits continue from people.

        Loading editor
    • wow they must really be persistent to sit there on a locked page without even knowing when the lock is gonna expire
