  • One of the issues of Steven Universe that results in a lot of head scratching is the apparent apathy of humanity towards the gems and all of the alien gem tech they left scattered across the planet.  While it is possible to come up with reasons why humanity would have little interest in this treasure trove of advanced alien technology the one thing I would think they couldn't ignore is Lars.

Lars died.  Then he was resurrected into a new form that can survive without the need for sustenance and may likely be immortal if Lion is any indication.  Human medicine has been trying to defeat death since the first human died and yet no one has come knocking on Lars' door to invite him to the nearest medical facility for some painless ("we promise") medical experiments.  At the very least I'd have thought Connie's mother, Priyanka, would want to take a look at him.

Then there's Steven, the one who performed this particular miracle.  Why isn't he somewhere filling test tubes with tears and spit?  Between Lars and Steven is the potential of an actual elixir of life.  Why does no one seem to care about that?

A short comic "For Narrative Reasons"

Excuse the attrocious artwork 🤣 (original ) T'was but a doodle.

"Shouldn't you be down that 'hospital' place, healing the sick?"

"...or contacting your 'UN' or 'WHO' to tell them that all disease and death as they know it are essentially cured?"

"Seriously - what are you too busy mooching fry bits and singing?"

Seems to me that the gems wouldn't be going to Steven as their doctor (like in Volleyball) and that the Townsfolk wouldn't have been so bummed out about getting crushed (Little Graduation) if they could just chug down a glass of Ol' Doc Steven's Miracle Elixir to cure their ills 🤷‍♀️

    • Fair on the first point but for the second I don't think anyone wants to know what deaths door is like even temporarly. Also we don't know if Steven can ressurect shattered gems so if anyone of them got completly destroyed by the shield  then thats that

Very good point - I think it probably lends some credence to the theory that the Gems/Steven's powers are secret that we don't see a queue of wannabe immortals turning up at the beach house with a bottle of poison in one hand and a hopeful look on their faces!  Because people totally would!  Heck, I might consider it to live longer and be super-human - slurp down some poison in eye-line of Steven and he'll be compelled to resurrect me 🤣

    • I've honestly wondered about this as well. Like think of all the people with terminal illnesses that Steven could save.

Except that Steven is doing anything but keeping his abilities secret.  He has no reservations about using his abilities openly.  Neither do the gems for that matter.

Lars' parents had to notice that he was pink and no longer eating and drinking.  They would have asked him about his time on Homeworld and Lars would probably have told them truth.  What reason would he have had not to?  With Beach City looking more and more like Grand Central Station for aliens the word is going to get out eventually.

    • I always thought Steven could only heal those he deeply cared for as Lars got healed with a tear and not spit which I thought meant he could only bring back those he mourned and it wasn't just like something you can throw around

Oh totally - it has no in-universe explanation at all.  You'd think it'd be big news - if for no other reason than all those weird structures (the Sea Spire, the Arena Ruins, the strawberry battlefield) would have an extraterrestrial explanation!

That's another thing.  Where's the news media in this universe?  Are there newspapers?  TV News?  Radio?  News websites?  There wasn't even any local media covering Beach City's mayoral election.  Beach City has been visited by nine extraterrestrial spacecraft, one of which crashed.  Then there was the giant arm that popped up out of the ground, Earth being connected to an intergalactic transporter network and a school for aliens yet not a single reporter looking for a story.  Maybe it's no wonder no one is looking into Lars and his resurrection from the dead.

    • Let's pretend My Hero Academia and Steven Universe are connected. All TV, Radio, News Websites and the whole media are solely focused on Japan coz it's where all the pro heroes and nasty villains get the big spotlight and attention. While Gems and America are largely ignored.

    • i believe they said that human society in this universe is simply very different from the real world

they don't seek answers like we do because it bit them in the butt in the past (who knows, some humans probably got killed by corrupted gems or something who knows)

    • Heck the origin of quirks isn't from a glowing baby from an asian country. It was either from the Injectors, The Diamond's essense, The Cluster, or the Bio-Poison Spinel's injector contained XD.
