So, I noticed something in "We Need To Talk"!
So, I was just rewatching the scene where Rose and Greg try to talk it out and I noticed something interesting with Rose's replies! I just wanna analyze them a bit here! :3
"Your hilarious, Mr. Universe!"
So, when I first watched this episode it felt... Strange and... Off kinda! The way Rose was replying felt way too... Alien to me. Like, of course she IS an alien XD And she hasnt really talked to TOO MANY humans but it seemed like Garnet and all the others understood humans better than her, which really confused me. At the time, it kinda felt like The Crewniverse was just trying to force a conversation between the two. But now that we know that Rose is Pink Diamond, it makes so much more sense! Rose grew up in an environment where humans were seen as primitive animals (As we see Holly Blue not even understand what Stevens saying despite understanding once Sapphire says the same exact thing) and despite how ahead of her time Rose's views were, she still was taught that humans are simple creatures. So Greg asking her if she respects him is humorous to her because in her mind humans dont think stuff like that.
"I thought... Havent we... Is this not how it works...?"Now, again, at first this line made no sense to me but now I understand it! XD Rose was legitimately confused, she thought that this was how human life was. She thought that all humans lived like the humans in the Zoo, just always carefree and happy. So not only did she feel confused when Greg just wanted to talk, she also felt bad. She legitimately thought that this was how it worked with humans and felt bad that she was wrong. She knew human's lives were precious and valuable, but she never knew they were complex.
Now, I know what your thinking. Your possibly thinking that "Ok, makes sense why she'd feel bad but she seems a bit TOO regretful I mean it was just a simple mistake we all make those" which you WOULD be right dear reader, but theres a bit more to her guilt. UwU Not only does she feel bad
She felt like a hypocriteAs we see in "Legs From Here To Homeworld" White Diamond was a bit of a... Jerk to Pink Diamond XD We see that she never acknowledged what she said, and as we see in the episode, sometimes even flat out IGNORED what she said. Rose felt like this was the same thing she did to Greg and she felt AWFUL for it. Due to her feeling bad for it, she tried her best to listen to him and have a talk.
"What!? Why not!? Ohh, I'm so confused!"As we see in this scene, shes really REALLY trying to understand and listen to Greg, but due to the environment she grew up in, she dosent even understand why she SHOULDNT be apologizing. Shes confused and dosent know what to say and what not to say, but shes still attempting.
"Well, uh, this is good! We've got one thing in common~"Both Rose and Greg come to an understanding that they just simply dont understand eachother 100% and thats ok. Because even though they dont understand, they'll still both try their hardest to. Which... TBH, in my opinion... Is adorable- XD
Anyway, ya~! Thats it~! I just wanted to analyze this scene a bit because now that the series is over it, for some reason, meant so much more to me! Due to Rose/Pink being my absolute favorite character in the series, any moment where we get to see her is a moment I cherish! XD Anyway, thanks for reading! Tell me your thoughts about this scene in the comments! Bai~! <3
EDIT: So, it just occured to me that I should've clarified that the part with White Diamond is a theory! I dont actually think that thats EXACTLY what Rose was thinking but its a hypothesis! <3
