I'm gonna miss the wiki forum. Good times, bad times, and so-so times were all had on here, and that's how you know something really stuck with you.
Not just for me, but for many others on the wiki
It's never gonna be the same.
Okay, total noob here. Can someone explain to me what "Discussions" are - in layman's terms, please? 'Cause I've read the entire thread and I still can't figure out exactly what's replacing the forum come this fall.
Is the forum just going to become inactive or is it going to disappear? :(
If you're curious what Discussions (sometimes called Feeds) look like compared to forums, if that will help you, here is an example (full transparency: that's the wiki I admin, and the Discussions area is about as dead as the Forums there were before it).
The top bar (down to the place where the commmunity, explore, etc. is) is the same content as the navigation area on the wiki proper, but Discussions is a separate software, not based in or an extension of MediaWiki like forums are, which is why some people in this thread have mentioned things that aren't part of Discussions that are part of MediaWiki, like wikitext (things like '''bold text''' or the like for formatting).
(If it's not clear: MediaWiki is the software that makes the wiki itself. Everything visible or accessible directly on SU Wiki right now is connected to MediaWiki either in the core software or an extension on it, AFAIK.)

Are we still gonna get message walls? How are people gonna request renders to me now?
Message Walls still exist (though they look a tad different)
Example (I chose Citrusellaeditswikis' profile on the Wreck-It Ralph Wiki because they previously linked the wiki)
I hate the migration ?
Same here. But I like your profile pic!
Not uncommon.
I don't like Discussions, but I do like UCP, especially with some of the new changes coming to it (some of the new things they want to do are part of the reason UCP migrations are paused).
Who wants to use software that's five years out of mainstream support? I certainly don't. XP
