  • So some people are saying that Steven did a deus ex machina in sworn to the sword, involving him fighting along side Connie with his shield.

But what the heck does deus ex machina mean??? Is it really that bad a thing? Cause I thought Steven and Connie fighting along side each other in that episode was awesome!

    • Here. There was no Deus Ex Machina in Sworn to the Sword though, at least I don't think there was. If you're talking about Jaydom Studios he was probably trolling, because he's always trolling.

    • (FYI, it was not a deus ex machina. Steven started to notice that Pearl was going overboard again back in the musical number. That's why he gradually looked more and more uncomfortable. That's why he was studying the How to Talk to People book. That's why he was trying to talk Connie out of it. Bumping into Garnet and Amethyst helped him realize it was more urgent and serious than he suspected. As for the shield, the Return already established that Steven can quickly and easily summon his shield when he's trying to protect his friends, and we saw him reflexively summon the bubble again in Sworn to the Sword at the start of Connie's training.)

    • In short, it's when only the author can save the characters.
