  • In the last episode in the Steven Bomb "Friend Ship," Pearl states that she is 'just a Pearl,' and that 'she needed someone to tell her what to do. She doesn't say 'just Pearl,' stating she isn't strong enough on her own, but that she is 'a Pearl.' This is also backed up in "The Return" when Jasper states she is 'some lost, defective Pearl." Could there be a connection?

My theory is that Pearl was cloned to serve Rose Quartz, who may be Pink Diamond. Pearls were cloned to be servamts, so when Pearl states she 'needs someone to tell her what to do,' we can assume that she means she needs orders to exist. Without them, she acts recklessesly, as shown in "Friend Ship."

Another theory(credit to MCcomics): Pearls are a slave race. They are made to follow orders, and don't really have their own personalities. However, our Pearl has her own personality and free-will, to an extent, which makes her 'defective,' like Jasper stated. I bet Rose took our Pearl because she saw the beauty in her differences, and saw them as strengths. Rose might have been the first gem to ever show love to Pearl, who was probably sent in a reject batch over to Rose so maybe she could 'repair' them.

    • That's interesting. No other gems have been referred to just as "an" X. Garnet isn't "a" Garnet. While the idea of her being a clone/not an individual seems really weird to me, I can't think of a better explanation for all of that. I mean, I could understand if it was just her saying "I'm just a Pearl" meaning like Pearls are just beauty, not actually able to cut or anything like a true gem, but that comment from Jasper leads me to believe this may hold a bit more water than I first thought!

    • I think all gems are clones really, it's just that some are rarer or have more distinctive features either physical or psychological, it could be that "Pearls" are the most commonly made and have less differences than one another, it could be that Pearl was considered a mistake for whatever reason judging by Jasper's comment when she came to earth

    • Pearls form indivigually in real life, and they are all the same shape, while other gems can form in any shape as any size, that also may be why Pearl isn't as gifted at shapeshifting as other gems.

I agree, but what if there are different Pearls, like Pink Pearl? Or Green Pearl? And what Jasper said makes sense, because Pearl was lost without her master, Rose.

You're right, but what if Pearl wasn't made for shapeshifting? She was made just as a servant, and she could summon a weapon to protect her master, but shapeshifiting was pointless to the Diamond Authority.

    • I'm thinking this, and honestly, it's the saddest conclusion:

    • I would hope that in the 6000 years since the war they now have tons of different types of slave class pearls and when we get to see another one it is Black Pearl and that the way they create or clone the Pearls is from the orgional Pearl aka "Mother of Pearl"... also I buy into the idea of our Pearl being seen as defective and because her gem that is her is not a perfect circle

    • actually also in Space Race Pearl says she could get a glimps of what might be going on with she missing as if she had a large family that would want her back. So Im kinda on your side.

MCcomics, I totally agree that this is the saddest part of the theory. And maybe there were other Pealrs in the rebellion that Rose was supposed to heal. I will be sure to add this into the theory
