  • Dear SU Wiki, We will be testing out a new light colored theme for the next week on the wiki! But, we need your help! Let us know what we can do to make the theme better! The main idea though is that we want to develop an alternative light color - dark text theme. After 7 days of working on this new theme, with you, the community, we will have a vote between the light theme and the previous dark theme we had.

Anyways, please please give us your recommendations! Show us where this theme is making things un-readable! Only Constructive Criticism! Negativity Will Not Be Tolerated On This Thread.

    • I like the color, but it's way too saturated. It's hurting my eyes. I'd reccomend a lighter blue.

In the chat, the white text against the light background is a little hard to make out. I think you should make the background darker.

        Loading editor
    • I would recommend a slightly darker color, like the bottom left of the star icons. If you understand what I mean.

    • I mean, I sorta like the light blue, but then again, I guess If it hurts eyes, it's best to ditch it...

That still has yet to be finalized. If you don't like something, please give us a color suggestion to replace it with.

Can you be more specific as to where that is.

    • I can't even hardly see what I'm typing so the text for replying needs to be changed. Also, any light colored text needs to be changed to a darker color as it is hard to read.

Seriously though, at least this reply text color needs to be different if nothing else.

Also, in chat, the VSTF link colors are very bright and hurt the eyes against the background color.

      1. Most of the staff link colors will be changed.

      2. I can not see the replying text issue you are experiencing, could you please try clearing your cache, and if it persists take a screenshot.

    • I have to agree with the theme being a bit of an agitator to the eyes.

I tend to be very color perceptive, if not sensitive, to colors.

My recomendation is this; darken the blue a bit on the CMYK scale, should be anywhere form a 24-40 on the C. Then add a bit of saturation to it in the K, around the 10's area.

The result should look something like A9D0E3, or this ==>
      A9bde3-320x320-color

this is a nice color :3

It is a nice blend of light blue without it being so in your face.

That's just my two bits, hope it helps!

Clear your cache (usually ctrl and f5.) The background should be a back view of the Crystal Temple and not Mask Island.

    • Personally, I like it; It fits with the show's style. But maybe you should also change the background in the back with something similar in style. Also, you have to change the color of the text when you comment, it's too light. Also, as a suggestion, maybe you should put the Crewniverse font for titles such as articles, seems fitting.

        Loading editor
    • I like this color. As "Why Am I So Strange?" said, I think it fits the show style. But there are some things that need to be changed, like the comment section in articles. Since it's new, I think when you fix this little problems it will be better than the old theme.

        Loading editor
    • The light theme is fine, but you need to fix the fonts used in comments and such, as they still use whiteish text.

        Loading editor
    • I liked the dark blue, if we could go back to that. But if it needs to change, then how about a darker shade of red?

    • Personally I like both the new background and style. It fits the show better and makes it easier to read in a mobile. Maybe the background should be just a bit darker and richer in color (maybe the combination of bright and pale makes everyone have trouble) , but it is fine for me.

The only thing that is really annoying for me is the whitish text in comments sections of both blogs and articles, and in the Regulations articles boxes. The sooner you can fix it, the better.

Any other inconvenient can be fixed by lowering the screen brightness level, that, like every sensible and reasoning person knows, must NEVER be at the HIGHEST ;).

Hope everyone's troubles with this get solved soon

It is too bright. The darker theme was easier on the eyes. Plus, I really liked the "night at the beach"-vibe it gave off. The darker theme also made my profile look much better because both the Chat Moderator-template and Userinfo-template use pitch black bakgrounds.

    • Let us clear some things up, shall we?

      Constructive Criticism

      • Constructive criticism aims to show that the intent or purpose of something is better served by an alternative approach.
        • Suggesting multiple other options than the one currently given to embetter it is a form of constructive criticism.

      Positive Criticism

      • A positive criticism draws attention to a good or positive aspect of something which is being ignored, disregarded or overlooked.
        • Saying how the new theme makes it easier for you to read the comments and how it greatly appeals to you is a form of positive criticism.

      Negative Criticism

      • Negative criticism means voicing an objection to something, only with the purpose of showing that it is wrong, false, mistaken, nonsensical, objectionable, or disreputable.
        • Saying that the new theme is too bright and makes it harder to read and doesn't really have that appeal than the previous theme is a form of negative criticism.

These types of criticisms are all acceptable in the current thread.

What isn't acceptable is just saying "It sucks", "The old one was better", etc. without adding more information on why you see it the way you do. Also, statements that are plain out rude. (These statements are classified as an act of plain negativity that offers no worthwhile value in the discussion at hand)

You can say "It sucks" but only if you added a reason why it sucks. Like, "It sucks because it's too bright. It hurts my eyes staring at it when I am reading an article. You could at least turn down the brightness a little." And bam! Now you have a negative constructive criticism.

Saying "I like it" or "It's great" is on the same vein. It offers no form of criticism to make it better. Again, you can always add more details on why you like it and why yout think it's great, or should it be kept, omitted, or embetter.

    • Alright. Oh where should I start...

For the last, dark theme of the Wikia I was okay with it. It fits and it sits. I didn't love it but it just fits with the whole Wikia, the templates and the tables which you got on several pages.

"Then again, the dark blue hurts my eyes."

Btw: This is in my way not a really good argument if only one user has something against that (even an admin) just because the "theme hurts my eyes". I've seen a lot users on the Chat who say the same thing with the bright Chat-Theme now. I don't want to talk now what is critisim and what is negativity, but that might be an appeal for the users here: If you don't like it, then write down why you don't like it and why it might hurt your eyes. The more of you writing down your opinion, the better it gets. Designs on Wikias are like diamond which need to edge and for the admins: Deleting comments isn't a way to do help this progress :/

The bright theme looks for me like a representation of the child-TV-Serie Steven Universe, but the blue theme just looked way better in contrast with the colourful images, screenshots and pictures in the templates.

For the background - In my opinion the blue in the background and the blue in the middle-thing where all the text is written doesn't fit because the colours are clashing, so I would use a blue tone from the background and fill it in the middle-screen.

As for the background: That's open to dispute because now you just add a verry large image as a background and that's about it. The transparent thing should stay but I would choose another image which represents the SU more. On my screen-size (1600x900) the temle of the Crystal Gems isn't really seen. It's just a landscape image.

I'd suggest a less saturated color, since it's the bright neon blue that seems to be hurting people's eyes. I think somewhere around #B0E4F3 would be nice, but it's really up to everyone else.

Sorry about that post. I got into a bit of blind fury when I wrote it. I am going to ignore your sarcastic and condescending tone and just answer your question. The reason I want to go back to the old background is because not only does it give the wiki atmosphere, it also had all templates working with it. The new background creates the issue of the templates not working and having to be adjusted to make it work. Not to mention the new theme being so bright that if you just woke up or it is dark where you are, the new theme can hurt your eyes. So that is why I would like the old theme back not because of my, "Egoist desire of going back to the old theme."

    • I like this color, but I think maybe a more "blue-er" color, like a little less gray, to make it more eye-catching. It's just a little dull in my opinion. But I have seen some posts saying a lighter color burns their eyes if they get up from a nap. I would agree, and would go with going back to a darker color theme.

i don't know, i have to say i dislike this lighter theme; not only because of the brightness but also because of the colors. don't get me wrong, light and cheerful theme suits SU more than the darker one but just create another one with different colors than this one. of course i understand if it gives u too much trouble to design a better one, where in that case just stick to the old one!

    • Here is a color palette you can use based off of the current background.

it seem's to me that the new theme is not working for anyone ( anyone but Malachite diamond) but i have a request why not we try Dark orangish pink and pinkish white mainly something like this http://steven-universe.wikia.com/wiki/File:Suintro5.png and i'm talking about the color pallet

Here 's the color scheme for that image. I love it. Thanks to MADMadison for introducing me to that awesome website!

Now if we do decide to use it, I suggest the dull version of the palette, since vibrant color schemes are apparently eye murderers.

    • Glad you guys liked it. Another thing I would change is this image (along with any saturated colors for backgrounds, like Crystallized mentioned, will murder eye balls if used ecxesively). I like the image personally. I would just desaturate it, similar to the BG image which is not very saturated.

    • If I'm correct, the vote is tomorrow right?

If he is sticking to the schedule it should be tomorrow. But I don't expect the vote to go up at exactly 3:10 (pacific time).
