  • I was messing around in MS Paint, trying to figure out what RQ's color scheme would be in neutral lighting. I compared RQ's skin to Pearl's skin in the What Can I Do scene from We Need to Talk. I found that they're almost exactly the same. The "blonde" hair on RQ almost exactly matches up with Pearl's hair, too. The pink highlights are a little lighter than Rose's hair, but very similar otherwise.

Do you know what this means?

Rainbow Quartz's color scheme is pretty much exactly like Pearl's, with a few highlights of Rose's in her hair. It's not the first time a fusion has resembled one member more than the other (Ruby red + Sapphire blue = Garnet...red?) but this is a little extreme. The body type is also more similar to Pearl's, minus the luscious curves. File:Pearl.png.jpg|Not that Pearl doesn't have curves. I've even heard someone say that upon seeing Rainbow, they never would have guessed that Rose was a part of that fusion. Last but not least, RQ has a clearly defined set of eyes for each fusee, with Pearl's pair taking up much more space than Rose's. It almost looks like Rose's eyes are being crushed under the weight of Pearl's.

Since fusions represent the relationship of the fusees, I think this tells us something about Pearl and Rose's relationship. Pearl must have been really overbearing. She might have even made Rose feel trapped. Just like their relationship, Rainbow Quartz looks stable at first, but is clearly unbalanced and unhealthy when you dig a little deeper.

Also... yandere Pearl? How cool would that be?

    • This is actually really cool. It would also explain Sugilites' colors.

I actually always thought Garnet and Amethyst's fusion was so purple to make up for how not-purple Garnet is, but I can definitely see how this theory could apply to her. Most of Sugilite's personality comes from Amethyst. Her desire to stay together comes mainly from Amethyst's desire to feel strong.

Sugilite is purple because actual sugilite is purple. :/

Remember that the creators decide what gem results from a fusion. The creators chose Sugilite because they wanted to show that Amethyst was the dominant personality, therefore, their fusion was more Amethyst's color, not Garnet's. The funniest thing is, I looked up a picture of Sugilite and one had dots of red and swirls of blue, but it was mostly purple. Hmm... I wonder what that means? The same goes for Rainbow Quartz, they could have made Rose and Pearl's fusion into any gem that fit their color combination, but they chose Rainbow Quartz because... disco-ball colors? Subtle, under-the-radar references? And her color scheme was a result of Pearl's dominant personality.
