    • Wow, I had not realized how ruthless the Crystal Gems really were. The Homeworld actually believed the gems on Earth had all been wiped out, meaning no gems occupying Earth ever left. And with the sheer number of gems bubbled away in the temple, that's a whole lot of people GAP and Rose didn't allow to leave. And you know at least some of them had to have wanted to retreat. Explains Lapis' sense of desperation a bit more, the Crystal Gems were bent on making sure nobody returned from Earth. And seeing as how they attacked her on sight, I doubt anyone other than Steven would have let her go in the end.

Not that they weren't justified. If Peridot is any indicator, the Homeworld gems would have killed every human on the planet if it served their purposes. She didn't bat an eye at the thought of killing Steven, after all. That's some dark stuff going on there. Makes GAP seem a bit more hardcore.

For some reason, the titles: The Message, The Return, and Jailbreak, make me think that Peridot actually reported the Crystal Gems' actions so any major authority from the Homeworld might send a 'message' or even a warning to the Crystal Gems to stop what they're doing. So, the Crystal Gems would refuse to do so and, somehow, another Gem or Peridot herself, would try to get back to Earth -with some company, who knows?- and imprison the Crystal Gems. Don't know. Just, too much for my young heart lol

Considering architecture like the Sea Spire, which once accommodated gems on Earth, it's likely that gems were on the planet for quite some time before they decided to drink the Earth's milkshake.

    • I have not seen the episode because I live in the UK so I have to rely on http://www.watchcartoononline.com/ updating. But from the comments on here it sounds like a fun episode, I was sceptical about it being peridot because steven looked happy in the trailer and I thought Peridot would probably try to kill him if she saw him so Steven would not be so happy to see her. But from reading the comments, it looks like it was indeed Peridot, and I guess she did try to crush him from reading the comments. But Steven looked so happy in the trailer so I think really steven? I guess he gives everyone a chance but it almost got him killed. At least that is what I'm getting, I haven't seen the episode yet so I will have a much better view on things once I see what happened in the episode.

Maybe the Crystal Gems didn't given themselves a name until after the conflict with the homeworld Gems ended. She didn't think there were any Gems left, though that was because the Red Eye was destroyed. Considering how long it's been since the Kindergarten was shut down, it's kind of odd.

XD Garnet had some of the best lines in this episode!

        Loading editor
    • Okay, so this was an interesting episode.

STAR FOX REFERENCE ANYONE? Looks like we got a new Andros in the galaxy.

I found it interesting that the episode was going back and forth between unfamiliar familiar stuff with Steven and Connie and the giant marble robots. It shows that despite everything thats been going on Steven still doesn't quite understand the amount of danger they are all in. One would have thought he would have learned this from Serious Steven. However, this serves a good plot purpose: He is so tired of not knowing anything that he decided to be the most direct in order to finally "know" something. He is now literally the thing that causes the Crystal Gems to have to face and accept the still imminent threat that never went away.

We learned about the Red eye, we knew it wasnt a gem but another robot like entity just like the flask robinoids.

Also, when Amethyst got goop all over Pearl then Garnet, and Pearl was sulking that she got it all over her, Garnet pulled her into a group hug. It shows how hard Garnet is working to keep their team together, and how much she wants them to work together.

I'm also sure that it was very difficult for Pearl to admit that she didn't know anything. She was so confused and lost and she looked quite upset and frustrated over this. You could tell even Garnet was getting frustrated with everything that has been going on when she flat out admitted that she didnt want to fight those things anymore.

Peridot's freak out session made me laugh. It was a very interesting mix of humor and fear. "All comedy is derived from fear." - This line from Garnet (fusion cuisine) now makes sense to me.

      I noticed the same thing.

Thoses three were on Earth for a very long time.

I would say what happen back then durring there war was either wiped from "Gem History" or it faded into being a myth.

The wiped from history idea would be a way for there, if any, leaders to keep the rest of the Gems obedient.

This is bad news though because it seems like the homeworld gems didn't know that there were crystal gems left on Earth and now they do. This is big trouble and this is probably going to trigger the events in The Return. So either the homeworld gems will go to Earth or they send an almost unstoppable force to eliminate the Crystal Gems. Things are starting to get really intense now and I love how the episodes Space Race, Warp Tour, On The Run and Marble Madness are now all linked together. But this is seriously bad news for the Crystal Gems.

It implies that the Crystal Gems didn't let any of their own kind leave Earth after they decided to rebel. As in, Peridot thought all gems on Earth had been wiped out because none ever came back and the Galaxy Warp went dark. Pretty severe if it happened.

Ok I just watched the full episode because the version I watched ended after Pearl's speech to Peridot. I think its safe to say Steven kind of screwed up in a big way. But then again they couldn't keep destroying those droids forever, but now they face a much bigger threat.

We get more world-building on what made the Gems want to mine Earth; this weird Red Eye character. We can only assume that it's a being that took hold of some Gems through some type of parasitic trance. Either that, or that's code for a Cat's Eye gem.

Either way, bad idea or no, I sense that Peridot discovering the Crystal Gems is a blessing in disguise. Maybe the Crystal Gems can make a better battle plan for when something finally DOES show up!

I look forward to the Steven spree to follow, as I'm dying to know how the Crystal Gems will prepare for the impending season climax! And by the sound of the next episode, they're taking the next step by upgrading Steven's gem with Rose's sword.

Yeah, I'd guess she either hasn't made it home yet or just didn't tell them where she'd been. I'm thinking the warning mentioned in the synopsis from "The Message" will come from her.

When Pearl was trying to leave Earth, she mentioned something about going to the "nearest star system" so one can say that Gems might live in different parts of the universe besides the Homeworld. In addition, the fact of Gems being 'conquerors' of other planets gives the probability of thinking that in those places they have won over, some gems perhaps have colonized there. So, maybe, Lapiz went somewhere else instead of the Homeworld. Just a speculation.

It didn't happen like a long time. Amethyst said that they had to stop the fifth robonoid that week. But yes, it gets me your point of Steven reading really fast but I don't blame him; not being allowed to watch TV for 1,000 years would make someone crazy if that was the main thing they did as a hobby and if reading books is the only thing to do till that whole time passes by, well, I'd do it. Although, I'll need all books in the universe in order to wait for that punishment's ending :v

Heh, that's how we found out about Lapis' existence prior to the mid-season pre-finale.

Could be Garnet's components, like you said, assuming she really is a fusion. The door colors match.

I've read some intersting hypotheses regarding this theory. One is that one or both of Garnet's component gems were severly damanged. Maybe they were somehow isolated from Rose and couldn't get to her in time for healing, so they only way they could survive was to stay fused permanently. Another is that after Garnet became the dominate persona, she gained complete control over her shape-shifting abilities, downsizing herself and losing two arms for the sake of convenience. Maybe Garnet's "true form" is much bigger with an additional two arms. She keeps the third eye due to future vision.

Hmm, that would explain how she was able to enlarge her arms and overpower Amethyst and Pearl so easily in Secret Team. Theory's starting to grow on me.

    • Maybe losing the extra arms is part of what Pearl said about losing individuality?

I do have to wonder.... if Ruby and Sapphire have been fused for 6 millennia.... what do they remember?

I do not wish to start a debate but I thought people already had in mind that Garnet may not be a fusion. I'm 99% sure of it because in the past, I was wondering the same but then, it was all clear. The door's color thing; Garnet, the gemstone, comes in many colors and blue, is one of them, being a rare one but garnets can come with that variation, too. So, as you all know, Garnet, she has two different gemstone's shapes in both hands; one of them is a square and the other one is a triangle. You can conclude that, because those two shapes are different, one might represent the red color and the other one the blue color. If you all read Garnet 's character article, it'd be easier to understand because others have explained it too. Here's some references for the gemstone, Garnet.

I doubt we will see it for sometime, at least outside of flashback/being told by one of the Gems. And not just becuase they destroyed the Homeworld warp. If there is any travel to the Gem Homeworld they would need some 'SERIOUS BACKUP' if it's an entire planet of presumably evil aligned Gems.

Well considering garnets can have the colours of red, purple, and blue (which is, by the way, the colours of her eyes), then garnet would be a very good candidate without revealing too much. Also, garnets are more of well known for their scarlet coloration.

hehe, (like quartz and sapphire) garnets can be almost any color! which includes a shade that looks almost like ruby.

As for weapon... maybe it's like Sugilite and Opal? Both use a single weapon that combines traits of their individual weapons. Maybe Garnet's gloves are actually two weapons in one? I'm guessing at least one of the two involved punching, maybe the other involved throwing stars?

Wow, I had not realized how ruthless the Crystal Gems really were.

In the CG's defense, they had good reason for wanting no Gems to tell of Earth again. If the Kindergarten cliffs are of any indication, not only are Homeworld Gems callous jackasses with no regard for Earth life, they also would most likely destroy the Earth if it couldn't perform to their liking. Also, I'm fairly sure the Gems bubbled were monsters LONG before Steven came along, most likely breaking out of a prison of some sort that has yet to be revealed. There's a big difference between ruthlessness and over-protection.

Though I will admit, this series is surprising me with the mature themes they bring in with each passing episode. No doubt from Rebecca's personal experiences on AT.

Let's not forget how it made us make a bond with a creature and was eventually smooshed by a stalactite trying to save a friend. Or making the main character age to the point of death with the other characters trying to save but to no avail, actually making things worst. Or transforming the character into an adorable monster and asks his father to help him in a very dark manner. The list could go on but you get the point.

Steven Universe masterfully veils the dark parts of the show until later it reveals its true colors and leave you in awe.

Peridot is only following orders and her personality and mindset is based on her upbringing on the gem-homeworld. She isn't necessarily rotten, but she is made dislikable because she doesn't view humanity in a good light. It is the same as when us humans look down on insects such as termites or ants.

Okay, so you're saying this show has the potential to be a kid friendly version of The Walking Dead? Man, best not get attached to too many characters then.

lol, good point Judgekoo, this show is perfectly capable of getting dark on us. I worry for Earth and humanity now.

    • Does it matter, regardless over whether or not peridot redeems herself, we get to see and awesome battle between the crystal gems and the home world gems. Also, I can't wait to see how the other gems look like. And here's another thing lapis almost killed the humans by taking away the ocean, but she did redeem herself by returning it. I'm not saying peridot is redeemable, but there is a possibility, but again it doesn't matter as long as we get an awesome fight.

        Loading editor
    • Also I think we should give peridot a chance, she isn't exactly evil when you think about it, all she's really doing is following orders. She is redeemable, heck maybe even the homeworld gems are redeemable. They might not be truly evil, antagonistic sure, but not evil, I think they still care for their kind, even with their bad actions.

    • In my opinion she's more like an Antivillain, a villain who is well intentioned, I don't think she intends on harming the humans, she is just following orders. She might even be a pawn. But of course every character deserves a second chance we'll just have to wait and see how she really is.

Agreed, she is that particular version of an anti-villain, not a villain who does good things for selfish reasons...which often translates to anti-hero, CURSE THESE CONFUSING NAMES!

However she did not even flinch when she went to crush Steven with her giant green fists. Or when she crushed the damaged flask robonoid. She may be a pawn in the grand scheme of things and perhaps she is not villainous but she sure seems to be heartless.

Wow, I had not realized how ruthless the Crystal Gems really were.

Very nice observations. A few more.

Peridot didn't know who GAP are. Notice the hestiation when she stated their names? The Crystal( pause) gems? She'd never heard of them. That leads me to believe the homeworld gems have no idea what happened on Earth all those years ago. Also, begs another question: What happened to Lapis? If the homeworld gems don't know about the events on Earth, could it be Lapis never made it home?

Another: Peridot stated she was finishing what the gems started when she went to crush Steven. So now we know that at least 6000 years ago, the gems were on Earth to eradicate humanity. Also explains why humans have no idea about the Gem Rebellion. 6000 years ago in our own history Earth was very sparsely populated, with major cultures situated only in Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, and The Indus Valley.

Still, a question remains: Who is the diamond shaped figure Rose is seen fighting on the temple roof in Serious Steven? If none of the Earthbound gems escaped, means she is still there, probably bubbled. What happens when that bubble breaks....?

        Loading editor
    • Yeah I can see that universe, I'll admit that was pretty messed up of her, but there's still a chance, one act isn't enough to call her a heartless maniac, but I will admit that was pretty cruel of her. But I still think there's a chance, but even if she is evil, I'm cool with it. It would be awesome to see her as villain or an antihero. But regardless of what they do, I want to see her more.

Not sure I agree. She had no compunctions at all about deciding to squish Steven. Not the act of someone with well meaning intentions. Futher, a soldier just following orders wouldn't take the time to ask the extensive probing questions Peridot did. Peridot is an engineer or technician, not well intended at all, but curious. She wants to find out about this Steven species-much like a biologist shows interest in a new form of bacteria-and then destroying it when it turns out to be nothing useful. If she had no intention of harming humans, she wouldn't have tried to off Steven. She clearly means to reactivate the Kindergarten despite whether or not humans are present; she thinks of humans as little less than nuicances; if that. Peridot is cold.

        Loading editor
    • Now I won't lie, she has shown some signs of cruelty, such as when she didn't hesitate to kill Steven, and she also did threaten before she left, but I still willing to give her a chance, but if she is evil, I wouldn't mind. It would be awesome to see her as a villain, I think it would be great to see her as a ruthless and cold character, but then again she is completely devoted to completing the mission and she wasn't going to let anyone stand in her way. But whether or not she's evil, it would still be awesome to see her battle wi the crystal gems, evil or not, it is still awesome knowing she'll be back.

        Loading editor
    • She's admittedly relentless in her goal to continue an operation that would drain the Earth of its life and casually tries to murder the first intelligent indigenous lifeform she encounters there, so yeah. She may very well care about her own people, but she's still a villain, and whatever moral code she has clearly doesn't factor non-gems into its equation.

Steven can't read to save his life.

Peridot is one of those villains who panic when things don't go as planned. She's also a snitch!

I don't see how Peridot is a snitch for reporting to her higher ups. Anyone in her position would report what just happened. An example of snitching would be if Lapis were to return to the homeworld and then sell the Crystal Gems out even after what Steven did for her.

They say that some gems turned into the monsters and amethyst says that she is a parasite. peridot is trying to restart the kinder garden. Steven's mom at some point tried to help them and steven trained and befriended the centripetal. Theory, Peridot brings army to earth, Crystal gems fight back with rehabilitated Kinder Garden gems (in my opinion they are a different race of gems that steven or the ones from space) , army's consist of bubbled gems, fusion gems, lion, and beach city inhabitance for the crystal gems. Peridots constists of droids, tech, and home world gems.

@Tim68 Gem-Human hybrid, just for the correction. But yeah, imagine if Peridot did see that Steven is half-human and half-gem! She would've reported that to her superiors, and they would've wanted to kidnap Steven to use as a test subject or even dissect him!

Steven never mentioned he was a human, so Peridot could still think he is a steven.

I hate it when stevens come to infest my kindergartens.

Very true, Steven did not say he was a human to Peridot. So, maybe that's why she tried to smosh him?

      Peridot hasn't attacked humans yet.

She DID say "just picking up where we left off". That needs some speculation.

Okay, I think we can speculate that whoever is Peridot's superior is either lying to or withholding information about Earth from her.

It might be that Peridot is Pearl's replacement in the GDA, but unlike Pearl who knows the truth about kindergarten and about humanity, Peridot does not.

    • So based on Amethyst's chronological age, which is a little over 6,000 years old, it's safe to say that the Crystal Gems (excluding Amethyst before she joined them) are over 6,000 years old. Further revelations are explored, including the discovery of the Homeworld Gems' lack of understanding the value of human life and the other creatures that exist, and how/why the Crystal Gems (minus Amethyst before she joined them) came to chose Earth over their home, and we may see more Gems from the homeworld that wanted to parricide the blue and green planet that is our home.

    • Peridot and Pearl fused could be Jade as jade is a light green smooth stone with usually no facets.

Peridot and Amethyst could be smokey quartz as green mixed with purple makes brown and amethyst is a type of quartz.

Peridot and Garnet could be bloodstone, cause peridot's stone is green and smooth with no facets and garnet has a reddish hue that could be sorta peaking through the green in a myterious way.

Peridot and Steven could be watermelon tourmaline but people are saying that the blowfish monster was confirmed as watermelon tourmaline so that's a little harder to guess at.

      1. The Red Eye is NOT a gem.

      2. The Pufferfish is DEFINITELY Watermelon Tourmaline.

      3. The Centipeetle is absolutely a Gem, but it is NOT Malachite.

Actually, now that we've seen Peridot's toys... #1 makes me wonder who created it. It does appear to be "Gem junk" as Amethyst put it, but not the same as the stuff Peridot makes.

I love how you concluded all this, It's very Helpful!! I sure needed this, Thank you!

But isn't it weird...how two Gems can create one powerful Gem but without one of them...that Gem might not exist.

For Example, Lets say Amethyst...in some way...dies..[PLEASE NEVER LET THAT HAPPEN] So without her, Opal wont be a thing anymore..right??

It is quite possible Opal could never exist anymore but also don't forget that if the kindergarten gets put back up, then an opal could be made.

    • What would your reaction be if every existing gem fused together in Jail Break to fight the Crystal Gems? "All I wanna be is the one that gets to see a massive woman. A massive woman!"

Maybe the former, definitely not the latter. No way would Pearl be involved in an assymetrical form.

this may be because steven's bubble is normally only activated if he's protecting someone else, not just himself

So, by what you sayed is, if I trap Amethist, Garnet and Pearl, I could easly kill Steven, witch I wouldn't do. If he didn't that doesn't mean he can't protect himself. Every time he was in trouble someone else was with him, so he needs to protect that person too.

    • I'm betting it works by Emotion Lord rules, where he needs to focus on what he cares about MOST for his powers to work. However, the inverse can be said with his physical abilities such as running and lifting. Take for example in Together Breakfast, when Steven was able to lift and push the GIANT breakfast monster into the burning pit, or when Steven ALMOST was able to make the leap to the island where Pearl was on in "Rose's Scabbard" until Pearl stared at him angrily messing with his concentration and falling down. This would mean his physical powers work best when he's not thinking. So theoretically in order to master the full scope of his abilities, he'll need to change his mental perspective at the DROP of a hat. That boy's got his work cut out for him.
