Hi there, the staff have recently added quite a few updates to the wiki including.

    Recent Wikia Changes

    1. Dorumin's script, this allows you to be notified by chat when you are private messaged, such as shown in the image below.
      8lysEEm
    2. Organized Emoticons page. Recently, we've increased the organization of our emotes page including updating out of date staff icons and adding more emotes for you.
    3. Comments on some pages were unlocked. After a bit of thinking and considering that leaking has decreased we have reopened commenting on pages such as the Lapis Lazuli page, the Alexandrite page and the Malachite page.
    4. Badges are no longer a thing
    5. Chat mods and Rollbacks were promoted. These include CrystalMomSquad and Leenakitty to chat mod and rollback respectively.

The badge add on that the wiki had has now been removed, so you will no longer get badges for making an edit on an article or similar.

Lots of garbage edits flooding the activity. The badges were a two-edged blade: they promoted activity but they did so in the wrong way and motives.

    • Badges are no longer a thing, seriously, I was so close to getting that wiki hero badge. Oh well they were pretty useless, maybe this'll cut down on vandalism slightly.

        Loading editor
    • That's a pretty big change though. How long were the badges around until now?

        Loading editor
    • This is a good wiki update but the badge removal is a mistake and it should be back because everyone love these badges and they derverse to get them

        Loading editor
    • There were a lot of reasons

      1. They were causing badgehunting. You have heard about it many times, and I repeat again, yes.
      2. To be honest, most people wouldn't even get to the leaderboard list, judging by how many edits most of the staff have already made.
      3. Badges were added to boost activity back when the SU wikia wasn't really active. When the show became popular, the badges weren't needed. A lot of top wikis have it disabled, and they are still the best ones.

Yes but it caused so much badge hunting and vandalism.

Speaking of which, it's an option not to have badges on a wiki? Every complete wiki (not counting Moco Moco friends right now) I've seen has had badges.

Put down to their basic form...

      1. Avoiding spam

      2. Not really needed

      3. It was needed back when the wikia was actually SMOL.

I don't know what SMOL means.

It was used when the wiki was fairly new, so activity would pick up. Now it seems the badges have boosted the activity in the wrong way.

It is my fault for assuming you knew, then...smol is a fanterm for 'small'. Basically, I'm saying it was more needed when there was only a little bit of people, now badges dont really have a use.

We removed badges due to badge hunting that has been spotted on this wiki many times. Like it has been said, you should only edit when you actually will add something meaningful and helpful to an article. Badges were to help this wiki grow when it was funded, now that we have many active contributors and even many who agree with this decission we're better off.

Same. I mean, I liked them, but it made me feel bad as a person for only having 4 badges, and having the, all be basic. I mean, of course I miss them a little, because I only collected a few, but I think it is best, so we won't judge each other as much on this wiki.

The edit badges seemed to count thread or blog comments as edits, so it was a lie anyway. I know because I tracked my progress and saw that I had got to about day 7 with only two legitimate edits. So really, all you needed to do was funpost on the "When is the show coming back?" threads to "hunt" the badge.

We removed badges due to badge hunting that has been spotted on this wiki many times. Like it has been said, you should only edit when you actually will add something meaningful and helpful to an article. Badges were to help this wiki grow when it was funded, now that we have many active contributors and even many who agree with this decission we're better off.

Why wasn't there any advanced warning or public discussion?

If this was such a big, important thing that needed to be done, why was it only listed as a footnote in a recent changes thread?

We're in the middle of a hiatus, why did the admins feel that there was suddenly an urgent need to make this change?

      Why the lack of transparency?

        Loading editor
    • What is there to warn for? And even if we did, It wouldn't help at all since you can't "prepare for" or "salvage" anything from this. Not everything requires community discussion, especially when it's just something like badges.

Side note: I think the removal will discourage community for a while, just like the badges encouraged it in the first place. But we'll get used to it eventually :) The badge system has meaning only as long as it's bringing improvements.

Although, i must admit, when I was for the 30 days, i made some bold improvements. That was a really useful badge.

Would you imagine that? Now the leaderboard is at zero, anyone who does a lot of trash edits would be on the 1st place automatically.

And other users could look upon that person as a good example. It could be given secretly and could focus on both quality and quantity, not just quantity. And it definitely shouldn't follow User of the Week/Month schedule.

According to Wikia's achievements help page, turning off the addon doesn't reset or delete anything.

If the Achievement Badges are turned off and back on, will that reset the badges each person has earned?
No. Disabling achievements won't reset anything. You can turn them off and then back on and everything will still be there.

    • Alright, I'll just make a little task, if we want to have achievements in profiles.

      • The example of what I am searching for
      • icons should be 34x34px
      • use texture/colors of gold, silver or bronze (it would be perfect if you can make all 3 at the same time)
      • something like a pedestal should be made, since it's not achievements but awards.

You need to draw any of these (or all of them):

      • Pearl (her top half)
      • Bara Wife Jasper, or just her buff arm (for Strong)
      • Something related with making codes
      • STALKER icon

      You can submit them:

      • in skype (ask any of the staff for it)
      • in chat
      • just on my wall
      • on my VK page ("my Website" link in the profile)

If your comments contain leaks they will still be removed and you will still be warned. It's just the comments are no longer locked so a user can create a new comment "stack" persay

i mean, (at least on the fanon) when they are deciding on a new staff, its usually based on their rank(which is improved through badges) or which could earn the most badges. My questio is now that there is no rank, how will you pick a new staff?(if you want one)

I don't think badges have ever effected staffing on fanon ever.

But I think the "badges" will likely be based on edits, activity, maturity and other various aspects certain people may have.

And like Pearl for Cal simply because

Actually...i'm pretty sure badges have nothing to do with choosing staff. You can read more about each rank here:

The staff should have thought about removing badges more. Badges give people motivation to edit articles! Sorry but I just believe they cause to harm to anything and are more beneficial than harmful to this wikia.

Not all the staff were on the leaderboard

It's really just because the staff tended to edit a lot especially with undoing revisions and such.

This was thought on for a pretty long while. Badges are good for small wikis to give incentive to edit articles where there is no way but going up. On popular wikis, badgehunters are a pretty big concern, and a bunch of top wikis have them disabled.

It's fair to say the new award for good edits is a rollback position and that's it.

Still, as I said that only warrants disabling the edit-based ones.  I still think you should be rewarded for the "loyalty to wiki"-ones. Since the stats are apparently still saved, perhaps those of us who did manage to get those badge could get some... other kind of reward on our profile? :3

Come on Andy you're being a tad overdramatic, the badges were useless tools that only brings about vandals

    • Yeah, I understand the reasoning behind disabling the edit-based ones (which were the root if the problem). I've been around long enough to see the crap edits they brought on. It simply oculdn't be solved without disabling the badge system as a whole - I wouldn't call the staff evil for that, lol.

They are top 12 because they have to be active here regularly, as a part of their responsibility, not vice versa. Anyone who proves to be creditable, regardless of badge status, can become a staff member, if staff decides so. Badges are just a...personal achievements.

Like we said before, we only enabled badges when the wikia was small. Looking at it now, it's gotten alot bigger and there's tons of big wikias that are still active but don't have badges. If people really want to contribute to the wiki, they will just continue making good edits as opposed to those who just make pointless article edits for badges.

Ok, will people just understand that badges were a thing to help out the wiki, not to be hunted. It can removed as long as the wiki is stable or perfect.
