    • So Steven serving as the dream warrior actually requires conscious effort and as a result he doesn't actually rest.

      Makes sense.

    • Wow. Who knew kicking butt in a dream could wear you out? This was a pretty nice episode.

    • Kiki take it from Pearl, suppressing your feelings is not a good idea.

Anyway Steven is Princess Luna, he can just go into people's dreams. I like though that Steven apology for going into Kiki's mind, shows some continuity and that he learned something from "The New Lars", granted it is not the exact same thing, but still.

This was a great episode, this is something you can relate to, I know I can, because I understand where Kiki is coming from, not wanting to say no.

And dam it looked like the Cluster was back for a moment. This is the second episode in a row Jenny has kissed Kiki, I just love the sisterly love.

I do think this plot could have easily done with the gems, just sub Kiki with Peridot, and sub Jenny with either Lapis or Amethyst, and you can kind of have the same lesson. But give the human characters a chance.

I do think, this could be for shadowing to future episodes, I could see in the upcoming Jasper arc, Steven going inside Jasper's mind, and maybe find out her true feelings and see this complex character we have been promised and perhaps that is when we will see Yellow Diamond again. We will see.

So that ends our little breather, except for Friday's episode which is more about the past, it is nothing but big episodes ahead.

Agreed, honestly I was getting tired of gem stuff, I'm happy we got some human episodes, the series began before ocean gem, it didn't start on ocean gem, same with this summer of Steven, it started when it started, not on a specific episode.

It does have a villain, just not a main one. As for fillers, no there aren't any. The Crew's words are considered cannon. If they say there aren't fillers then there aren't fillers. It's just that some people think the show is about the gems while it is not.

I didn't mean that as a bad thing, I can enjoy a good filler, but let's be honest here, how is the new Lars and restuarant wars not filler?

    • And that was Kiki's Pizza Delivery Service and...all I can say is: Here's a wrinkle Miyazaki never thought up!

Well, so far the Summer of Steven's been fairly placid. Mostly slice of life, some strong character moments, and a bit of Homeworld lore from Peridot in Too Short to Ride. I suppose I shouldn't be too shocked, since we've had nothing but big plot points since In Too Deep, but that's beside the point. I guess that's all we'll be getting this summer- *sees title of next episode* Spoke too soon....

The new Lars revealed quite a lot about Lars' life, such as his parents and extended the relationship with other characters (Mainly Sadie)

Restaurant Wars was a development for Fryman and Kofi.

I wish we could have more episodes of Gems doing human stuff and wearing human clothes. *Cough* Waitress Pearl. Some of my favorite things have just Steven being a kid and introducing the gems to his favorite human stuff. If you can't appreciate the bomb as a whole, I don't think you can appreciate all of them seperately.

    • Why did I have to watch this before dinner-I'M MAKING RIBS!

ON TO THE EPISODE-I like Jenny being an "Unknowing antagonist" from her perspective Kiki ACTUALLY liked doing favors for her, there was no malice to be found there.

ALSO-kinda glad/sad that there wasn't a deeper darker secret in Kiki's dream realm, I was hoping for some DRAMA!

SECOND ALSO-so...Steven just automatically goes into people's nightmares? Someone needs to find this kid a dream-walker sensei and train him UP or else he's gonna see some CREEPY stuff.

AND FINALLY-loved the Astro Boy bit, that was funny!

Also in The New Lars we learned Steven has the ability to posess other human bodies.

Restaurant Wars also opened up a little bit of a past for the stores. I wouldn't be surprised if the other store, the store that caused the treaty, doesn't make a reappearance somewhere in the future. It could be a set up for a future plot point.

Honestly I have a feeling that the crossover was forced, so it was never a part of the original scheme. So I don't consider it filler, more as forced corperate garbage.

Maybe so, but if this filler didn't exist, we wouldn't have good character development from Kiki nor Jenny.

Plus, we get to see just what impact this new power has on Steven if he uses it too much. Not to mention, we also get some tidbits of Steven being a genuine help to those around him in a non-helping-to-save-the-world manner.

Filler it may be, but even filler-centric episodes can have a purpose if written properly.

What i mean by that is there's no need to do a bomb with unrelated episodes.

Only Drop Beat Dad and Mr. Greg had continuity, the others is like they never happened in the next episode.

Well Stephord smiler is a term used to describe people who smile a lot but are really quite sad, also comes from the movies and book of the same name, Amethyst is described as one on TV Tropes thus she'd be the queen amongst the Stephord Smilers of Beach City

I think he's cooking the pizzas with his mom most of the time in all honesty. I assume she chops up the stuff while he prepares.
Yeah but what about Kofi's wife?
Probably either in the grave, or the state of divorce. Same goes for Fryman's wife. Restaurant ownership might be a marriage killer.
It seems to be a town of nearly all single parents except for Vidalia and Yellowtail and, as we just learned, Lar's parents.  I was wondering where Nanafue Pizza went?  Two episodes and not a sight of her, did the VA quit?

Or she could be out of town...? These characters DO have lives outside of their jobs, you know. Well, except maybe Kofi and Mr. Fryman, but I digress.

So freaky... As if Lapis's dream self in Chille Tid wasn't freaky enough...

Non-canon Steven Universe episode sounds like filler to me.
Honestly I have a feeling that the crossover was forced, so it was never a part of the original scheme. So I don't consider it filler, more as forced corperate garbage.

I believe it was the april fools joke and in interviews it was stated that it was the crewniverses idea. so yeah it was kinda made to mess with people.

And pretty much tired, too. (-:>

Still, doesn't one of the cool kids have their own car which she could tag along in?

Apparently not, since not only can Sour Cream not drive, but Buck's only vehicle is the mayor's van. And methinks no one wishes to drive around in that corny monstrosity. Besides the mayor, I mean.

In fact, there are so few cars in the town that I wonder how It's A Wash has stayed in business all these years. I can understand that most of the business will be during the summer tourist season, when Ian JQ and friends are in town, but there still needs to be customers the rest of the year too.

    • Eh, another Ok episode. What's happened to SU lately? There's been one great episode (Mr. Greg) two bad ones (Beach City Drift, Restaurant Wars) but otherwise they have ranged from OK to meh.

Now I get that they want to take time to focus on the minor characters, but let's face it, they just aren't that interesting. Also some characters, like Kevin, should just plain have been forgotten.

Thankfully according to rumors it looks like we'll be getting back to more interesting episodes soon.

Personal opinions that depends on each person and can't make everyone happy, that's what.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Let's not be too harsh here! Weak in some aspects, and mostly filler? Certainly. But outright bad...is stretching it a bit. Every episode has at least one redeeming quality, even if many are stronger than other.

That's pretty much how I feel too. I mean, The New Lars was really bad, but at least I got some takeaways from it like meeting Martha & Dante.

As for this episode, yeah it was simply OK but it was nice that Kiki got her own episode for once. And I actually find a lot of the Beach City residents to be interesting characters.

    • I actually liked the ending, but otherwise this episode was so predictable, that you ask "How could Kiki not realize her nightmares were connected to being overworked for delivering pizzas?" It felt forced, as if they made her dumb just so Steven could Save the Day.

And I'm not opposed to seeing more episodes focusing on Beach City. I would like to see an episode focusing on the Mayor and his son, for example. It's just that I feel they aren't handling them quite right lately.

When I first heard of Drop Beat Dad I thought it was gonna be a Mayor Dewey & Buck episode, I kinda wish it had been even though I liked what the episode actually was about.

As I've said before, I prefer the plot-based episodes with the Gems but have no problem with the ones about the Beach City residents. But yeah the ones we've gotten since the barn arc ended have been all over the place quality wise. Some have been fine, others not so much.

It's not that she couldn't see it. She was in denial and didn't want to see it.

    • When you think about it, this episode was a good for forshadowing, precursor to "Alone At Sea", they both had the message of just say no.
