  • Since this episode sounds interesting, I had to start this discussion.

You can give a list of theories you think this episode will be about.

"You're going to harvest me?" -Peridot

This episode might explain what Peridot meant when she did that.

I think in Homeworld the diamonds 'harvest' useless gems and use them to power objects, such as Lapis' mirror.

What do you think it will be about?

    • I think one of the rubies fall back to earth and activate an injector

    • I would be dispaointed if we don't get an explination for what peridot meant by harvest, so long as that is explained anything else can happen.

I suspect harvest is some kind of gem equivilent of soylent green in which gems are 'drained' of what every energy they absorb from a planet and are then recylced in some way.  It is clearly analagous to death and might be a secondary capitol punishment after shattering.

    • Steven teaches Lapis and Peridot how to grow crops and actually run a farm. XD

    • honestly knowing how they name the episodes it wouldnt surprise me because alot of episodes have had weird names but the episode itself was a little boring or not related to the name like watermelon island how it was a fight between alexandrite and malachite and not really that much about the island itself i mean it did have some stuff about the island but not much so gem harvest could be about anything really (btw sorry i didnt add any grammar i just didnt feel like it)

    • Maybe harvesting gems is when you turn gems into seeds for the injectors. I mean we still don't know how the injectors work.

    • no i dont think they need gems because peridot said the reason they dont have all they gem powers as era1 gems is they dont have as many matterials. i think they make gems how we make industrial diamonds on earth and the injectors use pressure or something like that from the materials they harvest on earth and put it in there and it plants the gem wich sucks the life out of the earth so based on what i said it could be peridot telling steven about injectors and why they are so bad they could use any material it could be people or even natural gems from a planet that form underground because in the episode where steven talks to peridot about the peridotite she looks at it weird and my guess is that like i said before they take gems out of the earth and place them in the ground with materials that make it suck the life out of it and thats just 2 theories on it (agian sorry for no grammar)

    • I think that gem harvest is where they take a gem and putting it into an organic being thus the gem takes over the host and helps to take over a planet then they either put the being in stasis until further notice or they're killed. The episode might be about Peridot explaining this process to Steven...I know Homeworld doesn't like organic life but

      1. Peridot knew about hybrids, either that's what two gem fusions are called or Homeworld has experimented with organic beings before

      2. This could help crush seeds of rebellion, the Diamonds could say, "If any rebel you shall be merged with an organic being and help us to colonize these planets"

    • I think harvesting is sucking a Gem's energy, i don't really know how to explain.

    • Gems are created when a certain energy is compressed into a gemstone via use of an injector. The process of harvesting is most likely an extraction of that energy, which is probably what is happening to each gem in the Burning Room. Hopefully this episode will reveal what it is the Crystal Gems are using that energy for.

Even in the Ruby did, it would be years before a gem popped out of the ground. That would be a fruitless endeavour.

i dont think the crystal gems are sucking the energy out of the gems they have in the bubble i think peridot saw that and thought they were going to do something to her it could be sucking the life out of a gem or not we wont really know until we see this episode and i think it would be a waste to suck the energy out of a gem unless they were rebels or something like that so i dont think they would "recycle" a gem. harvesting probobly mean when a gem is out of line they torture them or something like that or they do something like what homeworld did to lapis

    • I think harvesting a Gem is to strip them of their consciousness/free will and use the energy in their gems to power objects.

      Mirror Gem 122

'It's only supposed to follow orders...'

      Frybo TheseShards

'These Shards have a powerful partial consciousness that has been harnessed by Gems throughout history in order to create semi-sentient drone soldiers with the capacity to follow basic orders.'

      Pyramid gem
      Friend Ship 231
We've been seeing a lot of (seemingly) non-sentient gems being put in objects that can be controlled with simple commands since the beginning of the show. 'Mirror Gem' had already begun to address this but it wasn't explored further.

Harvested Gems being rendered mindless so that they can only follow orders may also be the reason why the CGs never bothered to let Lapis out of the mirror. They thought she was basically brain dead.

    • yeah I think that harvesting means draining a gem + repurposing it, that the process is equivalent to death, and that it has something to do with the injectors. All of those things suit 'gemeticist' Peridot well, and the general sinnisterness of the injectors.

I also think the idea that a harvested gem would be brain-dead might explain certain weird things like the sky/earth beetles (maybe - it certainly doesn't act like a corruption) and the idea that Lapis was initially thought to be braindead rather than trapped by the CGs

I believe that, also would explain Peridot's reaction to being in the gem bubble room. She immedately thinks about being harvested so it's probably something like being broken down to make new gems or to make gem-powered items.

    • It could just be an episode where Peridot and Lapis harvest crops, have a tractor race, and just have fun. A cute episode meant to advance the Lapidot ship.

    • The title could very well be a fake-out, but I really, really want it not to be. I've been dying to know what Peridot was referring to when she mentioned harvesting way back in Catch and Release. Plus, even all these episodes later we still don't know what the deal was with the Crystal Gems and Lapis' mirror.

I would really like to know about 'harvesting' and why the Crystal Gems didn't release Lapis, but most likely it will be a farm-Lapidot related episode, like 'Hit the Diamond' where it was thought it would be about the Crystal Gems vs the Diamonds, but it wasn't like that at all.

i hate it when the creators do that its so anoying i mean is it that hard to name an episode and live up to the expectation

    • Obviously: Lapis and Peridot 'needs money', so Steven teach them the art of grow vegetables, and [SPOILERS] Steven as usual doesn't know how to do it, a fun filler episode (because every episode that doesn't reveal important information is filler, according to fanboys)

Yeah, how dare they not match fans' expectations of an episode by its title. They can't control what works up the fans. Plus, there's been more than a few amazing episodes whose titles told us nothing about what was going to happen too. That's just the way it works.

    • the more I rewatch the earlier eps the more I see magical gems that power things but are not really sentient like the Gems are, and are not corrupted either. The weird triangle temple thing the CGs went to in the strawberry field was powered by what looked like a large white diamond D: in fact the CG's missions were often not just about containing the monsters created by the light, but also about collecting these gem-powered devices and weapons and de-commissioning them. Makes me wonder if the CGs temple is not powered by a similar gem actually.

Ok so the gem harvest ep may not tell us what Peri meant and that may be a in-joke :p however, I might point out that just like in horror films where you get fake outs that build up to the awesome reveal we, the audience, gotta be patient and stay with the ride :) I was far more disappointed by the rushed reveal of the cluster than I ever could if this ep keeps me guessing about what Peri meant
