Maybe Steven was only focusing on his friends, you know how this works.
Not to mention he would not have anywhere near the degree of control Garnet/Sapphire has over Future Vision. They can pick and choose what to look for; Steven can probably only see things in the imminent future within close proximity to himl.

I think the first half of season 4 will try to settle us down for the SECOND HALF.
I agree
Steven was pretty clearly only looking at the different options for responding to Mr. Frowney's questions, since being a better "Zoltron" for the stranger was the reason he needed the power in the first place.
Even Garnet and Sapphire, it seems, have to look for specific paths branching from a particular question or decision, and can be caught off guard if they're not looking for the right thing. Garnet kept looking for Peridot's interference in "Cry for Help" and apparently never just looked for "Who is rebuilding the Communications Hub?" Sapphire especially seems to focus on the highest-probability timelines only. She never saw the possibility of Ruby saving her from being poofed by Pearl and changing both their futures forever. She apparently did see the possiblity of Steven challenging the Ruby Squad to a baseball game, but dismissed it as unlikely.
Given that we've seen how Future Vision works "from the inside" -- that the viewer has to cycle through all the different options, possibly living out multiple hours repeatedly in his or her mind -- it's understandable that no one ever chases down every possible future. Focusing on very specific questions and only peeking at the three or four highest-probability outcomes is likely the only way anyone with the power stays sane.

Also this is the first time Steven has tried to use future vision on purpose.

My point is, go back to the early episode where Garnet tells Steven about it: she visualizes a river that branches out into many different paths.
Garnet/Sapphire can navigate these paths to a certain degree. Steven can only float wherever it takes him.
Mr Frowny is me, pretty much
You mean you sometimes get the same depressing feeling, like Frowny does? )-:
