  • I swear to Jesus, if her and pearl becomes a thing, I'm leaving the fandom. I've put up with all the fanfics and smut, but "oh, a human appears and looks like rose quartz with pink hair, and pearl falls for her, and they're gay for each other" is too much for me. Believe me, I'm all for gay people, go ahead, but I'm not comfortable with this brainwashing.

    • What are you talking about? I have totally been liking that mystery girl! She's great! And let Pearl be with her beacause this is just better and perfect for Pearl to move on from the past. And don't even try to call them gay. Just try to call them the other way around like, "lesbian". ^u^

    • Isn't she a girl? BTW she's amazing

    • What exactly are you referring to as "brainwashing"?

    • Why are you leaving the fandom because of a really minor character who will probably barely appear?

        Loading editor
    • maybe she'll (Pearl) gets heartbroken, because the mysterious girl has a relationship with someone else, which will make a flashback episode about Pearl's past with Rose Quartz ....but who knows.... haha

    • I think the mystery girl/S is fab in appearance. But very similar to what Apollo said, I wouldn't say her character is that good yet only because she didn't have any dialogue or personality. So for now, she's kind of a boring character, from her stereotypical lesbian (and punk) design to her being a stand-in love interest for Pearl. (please don't kill me Apollo I swear I'm not plagairizing)

I don't really ship her with pearl only cause I'm a Pearlmethyst type of person. but maybe there are rooms for polyamorous relationship :^)

Based on your link, we have known that Mr. Smiley is gay (from a behind-the-scenes comment) for a week. There was some hinting toward that in the ambiguous nature of his past relationship with Mr. Frowney in "Future Boy Zoltron," but other than that his sexuality has never come up in the show, as he is a fairly minor character. If he is "based" on anything, it is his quirk of constantly smiling even when he's furious. Who has been "parading him around" for being gay? They can't have been doing it for very long compared to the amount of time the character has existed.

    • KipKat, what are you seeing as brainwashing here? It seems to me that the show treats all forms of attraction, and relationships developing therefrom, pretty much the same. Rose liked men; Pearl likes women; Ruby and Sapphire have eyes only for each other; and so forth. The only thing unusual about this show is that, until recently (very recently in animation), one couldn't just casually depict a same-sex relationship; either such a thing never appeared at all or it was The Issue of the movie/show/episode.

Given that it is still a divisive issue in our society, I suppose that depicting all relationships as basically the same could itself be seen as taking a stance and therefore as a form of "brainwashing," but surely no more so than the aforementioned earlier shows and movies that presented only one kind of relationship as normal.

    • You have to remember that anyone will flock to something / one if they're gay. *cough* Smiley *cough*. Again, I don't care about you being gay / lesbian / bi / apache attack helicopter / WHATEVER. I do not like this Deus Ex Machina Bootleg Rose. She's dead, final, nothing is going to replace her. I would appreciate if we could have more straight relationships like Steven and Connie. And I know what some of you are thinking, "oooooohh, they need to show the importance of other people and how they are", I get that, but you shouldn't only show gay relationships. To be honest, I prefer Stevidot, but that's just my silly / stupid opinion.

    • Have a good life, then.

    • If it was someone other than Pearl it could be a straight relationship but she hasn't shown any attraction towards men or male coded individuals.

    • Why is it a big whoop-de-do if Pearl has a girlfriend? It completely makes sense that Pearl would be attracted to a Rose look-alike. SHE WAS IN LOVE WITH HER AND WORSHIPED HER FOR 6,000 YEARS. This is her first attraction since Rose. It would be likely she would choose something comfortable to her.

And secondly. We know nothing about Mystery Girl other than her name begins with S. She gave her her number, sure. I've had little slips of paper with numbers from girls given to me, it doesn't mean that person was looking to marry me someday. She thought Pearl was cute (which is true and fact) and wanted to get to know her.

Either way, its good to see a LGBT fluent cartoon, because its a first of its kind. There is no brainwashing. Every show ever has had Hetero relations in it since they figured out television. Pearl deserves to be happy and we have no idea whats going to be going on. Brainwashing. Please.

    • I actually love the emphasis on LGBT themes.
I'd rather see more gay relationships and much less straight ones. Just as long as they're compelling.
Mystery Girl is just an over-hyped and uninteresting character, for reasons explained.

Also the term "brainwashing" is for idiots

    • What I think is funny about the purpose of this thread is that the OP doesn't realise gems are genderless so even then you could say it's not lesbian strictly speaking.

They're clearly supposed to represent a lesbian couple. To say otherwise discredits the normalisation of LGBT themes.

It's like arguing that there's plenty of heterosexual relationship representation because "gems are genderless". It's really not the case.

    • Well, if you're after straight relationships, you can watch pretty much any other TV show from the last 85 years, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Meh. I just freaked out with joy because my headcanon had more evidence of being true. What I don't like is this:

"I don't like this character", "This character is the worst", "We barely know about said character" or "Who is this character?"

Suddenly, it's confirmed they are gay/bi/lesbo/ace/trans/not straight or cis

"HOLY FLADOODLES THIS IS THE BEST CHARACTER EVER!", "SAID CHARACTER IS THE BEST NOW!", "LET'S BUILD A SHRINE OUT OF THIS CHARACTER. THEY'RE LGBT NOW"

..really? That's basically saying "I didn't like this character before, but now I do because they're not straight/cis."

You mean "sexless" - male and female are sexes; masculine and feminine are (the stereotypically linked to male/female respectively) genders.

No, I really don't - for example on Pearl: http://i.imgur.com/oHalidg.png

    • Uh...quesiton: Why does this matter? It's just a relationship on a fictional series about humanoid rock people. So big whoop that Pearl has a new crush on Earth. IT just shows she and Rose aren't all that diffrent.

Plus you mention other straight couples...ahem; Lars and Sadie? Yellow Tail and Onion's mom? ALL The married relationships like Connie's parents and the Pizza shop owners?

Plus i noticed someone mention the 'gay agenda'...Well, fun fact; The Christians can also push an agenda. ANYONE can push an agenda! There s no such thing as an 'agenda' if someone else isn't gonna try to push for something. A person wthout an agenda is someone who has no real goals. And in your case, your goal is to use religon as a way to bad mouth a cartoon series?

SO i this is so bad that you don't want ot be a fan anymore? Fine, whatever. But it makes you look REALLY petty.
