More forced than blaming someone who already had a whole song about being in the anger stage of grief?
My theory is that it was one big plan with the diamonds. White made the arrangements, blue did the deed or told pink where to meet her and Yellow provided the weapon. Basically I think pink really wanted to be a true diamond despite being small so white gives her a test: she chooses the earth and tries to make it a reality. Only one of her gems rebels against her so she basically fails and gets shattered because she’s defective in every sense of the word.

even if its mind control I'm sure they'd believe the real Rose if she said "i was framed"
Because Rose is a strategist. Even if Rose's memories weren't also altered to make her think she did it (if it happened, why would she be spared?), that would have been the best possible outcome for her as a rebel leader.
Her cause was fighting a being that their culture holds up as worthy of worship and obedience because they're perfect. Yeah, it meant she was blamed for something she didn't do, but if she got the credit for killing Pink Diamond, that would have been great for her cause just because that would have proved that a common soldier could kill a living goddess. Maybe she got a reputation as a shatterer that she wouldn't have wanted, but that reputation was the figurative man who could make God bleed. It probably won huge numbers to her cause, given how the rebellion is implied to have turned into an outright war after that.
She’s meant to foil amethyst or who amethyst would be if Steven wasn’t around and she didn’t have a way to move on from Rose Quartz. Basically the diamonds are who the crystal gems would be if they didn’t have Steven around since due to the caste system they support they can only rely on each other. Amethyst is temperamental and if you give her a crown and infinite power she can pretty much do as she pleases.
Think about this possibility, what if Pink Diamond was actaully captured instead of shattered? There are speculations of the room that the Crystal Gems have containing bubbled gems has shown a quck glance of a pink diamond like gem (THAT LOOKS IDENTICAL to the most recent scene of Pink Diamond) in a bubble for a brief moment in episode 'Catch and Release' while Paridot demands Steven to tell him what is this room. The reason Yellow Diamond is very quick to assume that Rose Quarts was the perpetrator could be highly because of the already presumed infidelity of the Rose Quarts (hence why they are all bubbled in Pink Diamond's Zoo) and her "recognized threat for SEVERAL HUNDRED YEARS before the attack on Pink Diamond, THERE WERE NO ROSE QUARTS SOLDIERS IN HER ENTOURAGE OR GUARD" acording to stevens lawyer. Yellow diamond must absolutely hate Rose Quarts since she was the only remaining one left uncaptured with Pink Diamond. Rose's sword coud not possibly shatter a gem or a diamond. So why not place all anger, rage and opposition to the lawyers and to any other reasoning for a Rose Quarts to be inocent? Yellow Diamond does not have the slightest idea what actually happened but only knowing Rose Quarts was with Pink Diamond during her being "shattered" ... Shes in that room ya'll and Rose must have bubbled her diamond up there before her army saw anything and proved to her rebelion that she "killed" a diamond.

I'm going to stop you right there.
Yes Yellow does seem angry, but do you not know the stages of greif? Yellow seems to be stuck in the anger stage. She obviously loved Pink, it was made clear in the song she sung to Blue. She cares for Blue Diamond as well.
Also, haven't you ever whinned to your mother and demanded more respect because you thought you were and adult and you got told to "Start acting like it then!". It's not nesscessarily that Yellow was being mean to Pink, she was working and got frusterated with her. This was kinda like a Mother/Daughter type of fight and that doesn't mean that Yellow doesn't care about her.
Pink could have angered Yellow by going behind her back to colonize her own moon or may have screwed up Yellow's in anger, and Yellow corporally slapped her too hard (not meaning to), the force from the blow and hitting the ground shattered her (because diamonds can only damage diamonds in real life). Now Yellow is just pissed at her self.
Or what if Yellow is angry because Pink might have felt neglected by her fellow Diamonds because of The War and did herself in, and Yellow is angry because she might feel like she could have prevented her from going through with it.
Also, she might have made all the Rose Quartz leave, scatter, and never return to her aid, and Rose came back not knowing the memo, causing her to be the blame because the Diamonds came a few minutes after.
