How doesn't that make any sense? When data's corrupted that means something changed it, corrupted data damages your computer. Here's a couple definitions of corruption, "The process of causing errors to appear in a computer or database." "Decay"

Look just forget the computer thing and focus on the second meaning, "Decay." as in their brain essentially rotted. What else would you call what happened to them?

    • Why are corrupted gems called like that in the first place?

The Diamonds used the Corruption Light to eradict every single gem that participated in the Rebellion, that's what they actually meant, to destroy all the gems. But that light made something close, but not as worse it could be.

When a gem gets corrupted, it's basically that their mind, and body becomes messed up. It's basically a(n) immortal scar that's been forged inside the spirit and the gem, they won't appear like they were before the corruption, they appear as a different one. They become abominations, with errors like said above.

They are called like this, because like I said above, they don't appear like their normal versions, they become monsters that can't be understood (unless if you make them write like they did with Centipeetle & Steven).

The identity of a gem becomes messed up, it's mind scarred by something that possibly could never be cured, a plague that hits whoever was present when it was launched. .
