Me too! Though I also really like Let Us Adore You, for some reason (original and reprise). I guess it was just funny seeing the Diamonds, rulers of everything, fawning over Steven like that (though Yellow scared me at one point).
Hm, Other Friends is indeed catchy. Though it bothers me a lot more than it should that SS manages to forget her 1920's slighty-New-York accent about halfway through the movie! 😄
True Kind of Love is one of the best Garnet songs I think. Though it's diminished for me a little that it comes shortly after Isn't It Love? which just sounds like a half-finished bag-o-clichés to my ear 😜 Like 'Did you write it the night before recording, after your dog ate the first draft or something?'
Drift Away genuinely upset me. Between you, me and the grand piano, it deeply disturbed me. As in, it messed me up for a couple of days. I've an abandonment complex due to my childhood (my mother left me with my abusive father when I was about 4, then came back when I was a teenager only to abandon me again shortly after I started transitioning). Drift Away got to me, badly. The imagery of a vey child-like person just left totally alone and neglected, before finally the penny drops and they realise that the person they loved had effectively thrown them away. Yeah, that hurt. Who else is a 4 year old going to blame for being abandoned other than themselves? Certainly that's what I did, and that's reflected I think in how much Spinel hated herself. [Note: I got over it, so don't fret! I've dealt with bigger emotional problems 😄]
My favourite song, then, has to be the Finale. I'm an absolute sucker for a big, closing, cast ensemble. I'm also a sucker for an ending that is happy. Like the finale of Les Mis, with the entire cast singing a reprise of Do You Hear the People Sing? The enemies are dealt with, the fallen have gone to paradise and life returns to an improved status quo. What's not to love? ❤️👍
