I joined the wiki today one year ago. Oh, but what a coinkydink! June is the month of Pearl! So maybe June 16 is Pearl Day? Hehehe...
Jokes aside, I wanted to celebrate my one year of being on this weird conglomeration of stuff and stuff and even more stuff by hosting a contest, all in the name of Pearl. You probably know me as that one weird guy who collects Pearl fanart all the time. I've amassed 3,600+ images and it's still going up. So what better way to celebrate this arbitrary day than to host a contest!
Yes, that's right! You put whatever fanart of Pearl you've got here and you might even be able to win something. The challenge is, the cutest fanart will give the user 300 of the best Pearl fanart I've got in my collection. And before you ask, no, I won't crash your computer by sending it all at once. I've got it all packed up in an online storage, and all I have to do is to give you the link to it. That's if you win, of course... hehehe.
And obviously, I've got a few rules to set down to prevent this from going completely out of hand and whatnot.
1. The fanart must have Pearl in it. A big focus on Pearl is preferable. This is a Pearl fanart contest. You might amaze me with some awesome drawing of Lapis that I might find really cute, but it doesn't count. You could send group photos with Pearl in them, but use your best judgment. Your goal is to break me down in awwing and immense incomprehensible cuteness of Pearl. Also, Blue and Yellow Pearls work, and I encourage you to be diverse! PNGs do not count.
2. Cropped Rule 34 is allowed, but use caution. Yes, I know some of you are into top-end stuff, but considering the wiki forbids it, and I want none of that in my collection, that's not going to work here. If you really want to, you can crop the image to be SFW, but you have to make sure it's safe. Also just throwing that out there, you probably won't get me with cropped R34, but you could try.
3. When posting your image on a comment, make it no bigger than 300 px. This isn't really a rule, per se, but rather a courtesy. There is no limit on the size of the file itself, but considering you're not going to be the only one posting fanart, please be mindful and downscale the image when its posted in a comment. Devices might lag otherwise, and that's not fun at all.
4. Don't forget to categorize your images! That rule that you probably don't like? It still applies. You won't be disqualified if you forget to do that, but it's still a rule you have to follow. And in the event you do get blocked because you forgot to do so, there's probably no way I can give you all the fanart. Of course, you can avoid all this if you simply link them, and that's actually better. It can credit the artist, too!
5. Maximum of three submissions allowed! You might have a bunch of ideas of what might break me and that's perfectly fine. But if there was no limit, then technically the one with the most fanart could win, and I want to give everyone a fair chance. Besides, where's the fun in spray n' pray?
6. Notes on duplicates and their two types. The first type is a duplicate of another submission. If you use the same fanart as someone else does, it doesn't count. And you shouldn't be doing this anyways, it's sort of spam. The other type is a duplicate of what I have. I know you have no idea what I've got and I got tons of fanart, so if it happens to be a duplicate of whatever I've got, that's fine. BUT if you happen to find an image I uploaded on the wiki, you can't use that.
7. Make sure the fanart you're sharing can be shared! There are some artists who wish that their fanart not be distributed publicly, and we must respect their wishes.
I'm thinking of running this contest for 7 days, but depending on how things go, it may get extended. Additionally, I'm imposing a minimum - if there are fewer than 25 entires by the end of the given time period, the contest is off! And to give more incentive, for every extra submission, the pot sweetens. The base is 300 Pearl fanart, whereas every image past the 25th adds another 10 fanart for the eventual winner up to a maximum of 600.
Just a quick note, while the rules themselves will not change, I may tweak the time and reward. Be sure to check back every once in a while to see if anything changes.
