The Vine Monsters were large creatures the Crystal Gems fought in Issue 7: "Mean Look" in the Steven Universe comic series.
Appearence[]
The creature is either one being with multiple heads, or are three separate beings. The Vine Monsters, true to their name, have vine-like bodies with the heads resembling a papilionaceous flower, with the banner and keel being the upper and lower jaw, respectively, and the two wing petals on the sides having the appearance of their eyes. A black gem looking object is seen on the middle of the heads.
Abilities[]
- Teleportation Beam: The Vine Monsters are able to shoot beams from the black object on their center that can teleport someone.
- Vine Whip: They are able to use their vines as whips in combat.
History[]
Steven and the Crystal Gems were fighting these creatures in the middle of a rocky terrain, with Onion watching while eating popcorn. Things take a sudden turn when one of the creatures shoots a teleportation beam, beaming away the Gems. They then turn towards Onion and slap the bag out of his hands. He gives them a death stare and by the time Steven and the others returned, the monsters were cowering behind a rock while Onion waves hello, to Steven's surprise.
Trivia[]
- The Vine Monster's appearance coincides with some of the species in the family Fabaceae, also known as the Pea Family, who's flowers are predominantly papilionaceous (butterfly-looking) and with some of the more well known members growing as vines.
- The comic they appeared in was done in black and white, making their true colours unknown.
