We'll always save the day!

Trivia

  • In the full version, each of the Gem’s have a reason to protect Earth:
    • Garnet wishes to protect Earth for freedom of staying fused.
    • Pearl stayed on Earth to keep Rose Quartz’s beliefs alive.
    • Amethyst remained on Earth because the Earth is where she was made.
    • Steven protects Earth so he can be the person everybody wants him to be, his mother.
  • At the start of the introversion of the song for the first season, the Crystal Gems' gems glow.
  • In the main series, the song is sung by all of the Crystal Gems, while Steven sings the song alone during the Pilot.
  • The melody of this song has been quoted in several other tracks, such as "Steven's Shield", "Dad Museum", "Fight, Flight, or Love", and "Decisive Path".
  • Starting with "Sworn to the Sword", a re-orchestrated version was created; the song contains drums, the scenes are different to be more fitting with the changes and the Gems are in their post-regeneration forms.
    • In the new intro, Connie can be seen with Rose's Sword, Jamie can be seen sitting on the beach, Onion can be seen on the roof of the Big Donut, and Beach City seems more lively in general.
    • Greg is seen lying on Lion playing an electric guitar, which is the same guitar he plays in "We Need to Talk" and "Story for Steven".
    • Steven and the Crystal Gems can be seen on a Warp Pad in space, with Earth and the Moon in the background.
    • Steven sings the word "Gems" interrupting both Pearl and Amethyst.
    • After the Crystal Gems say "We... Are the Crystal Gems!", Steven is shown to be doing the Diamond salute.
  • At the Adventure Time/Steven Universe panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2015, an extended version of the song's lyrics was released in a video featuring a young Steven singing (reusing audio of a younger Zach Callison performing the song in the Pilot), as well as the other Crystal Gems.
    • It follows a similar pattern to the extended opening from the Pilot for the first scene, with Garnet starting and afterward the rest of the Gems clapping along to Steven playing the song on his ukulele.
    • It also revealed that the song was written, as far as in-universe canon goes, by a young Steven just having learned to play the ukulele before making the move from his dad's van to moving in with the Crystal Gems.
    • An earlier form of Amethyst is seen previously in the video when Steven was young. She wears a purple sweater similar to the one seen in the Pilot. After the house was completed, Amethyst is seen in her debut form in a purple tank.
    • In this version, Greg sings the words "believe in" towards the end of the song.
    • In the video presented, a silhouette of Yellow Diamond can be seen alongside Homeworld Gems Peridot, Jasper, and Lapis Lazuli.
      • This is the first appearance of Yellow Diamond in any Steven Universe media.
      • A montage of various clips from previous episodes was shown as Steven and the Crystal Gems run along the beach, reminiscent of the first opening sequence. These clips include (in order of appearance):
        CG running along the beach
  • The extended version that was shown at the Adventure Time/Steven Universe panel is the first time any Homeworld Gems are shown in the theme or intro.
  • In the Gems' individual verses, including Steven, they all summon their weapons.
  • On October 8, 2015, Ben Levin released a Ska remix of the song.
  • Steven eating a hot dog at the end of the original theme song may be a reference to his dad's phrase "If every porkchop were perfect, we wouldn't have hot dogs!".
  • In the second and third stanza of the semi-extended version of "We Are The Crystal Gems", the song sounds similar when compared to one part of a song that Ice King sings in the 25th episode of Adventure Time's 4th Season, entitled "I Remember You." This may be due to Rebecca Sugar's contribution to writing both of the songs.
  • A small portion of this song is played when Garnet introduces herself in the OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes! crossover episode "Crossover Nexus".
  • A line sung by Pearl from the full version ("If you could only know, what we really are") can be heard in the background of the teaser for "In Too Deep", an event starting Season 3.

Errors

  • At the beginning of the theme song when the close up of the gems is shown there is a small gap between Steven's head and Amethyst's arm showing Amethyst's body that does not have her shirt on
  • At the very start, Garnet's inner star is colored the same as her gloves and right leg, instead of its usual hot pink color.
